Did he get a passing grade today? That is a mediocre group of talent out there who do not understand how to read the game, anticipate and get a shot off while a defender is hot on your trail. You could call Klopp, Guardiola or whomever and it is not going to change the fact that DC does not have good enough players.
The game could easily have been 0-3 in the 9th minute against an expansion team. That's before the injuries, before the fatigue, etc.
If you watched the LAFC/Miami game last week you would’ve seen LAFC carve up Miami consistently and that game would’ve been a blow out but for Robles and some garish finishing. Miami is getting better but the fact they were bossing DC around down a man for 30 minutes is disgraceful. DC plays with no unified, cohesive plan. It is super basic soccer crap that relies on a few quick breaks, lots of athleticism, and grit. It doesn’t work as it isn’t sustainable for a long season. Having a paper thin roster doesn’t help either. DC could’ve worn down Miami by quickly moving the ball but they don’t have the tactics or the skill to do it.
Absolutely correct. What I saw yesterday was Flores becoming more and more agitated at his teammates because they were holding the ball far too long and not moving it quickly. He was screaming for the ball in space and whoever had it simply backpassed instead. While I think Gressel is overrated, he also is a bit frustrated because no one is making runs or rewarding runners with a pass. The worst two offenders for DCU are Canouse and Moreno. Canouse in particular seems completely lost out there. If OA is close to 90 minutes fit, I'd put him in at RB and move Canouse to the middle in place of Moreno who has regressed badly since the middle of last season. Of course, thanks to the "brain trust" this team has no natural left back physicallly able to play and has zero backups that are fit to play across the backline. Indeed, even the backup GK is injured. Jonny Northeast, maybe it's time to rejoin Rooney in England.
Sorry. It was 25-yards. D.C. United head coach Ben Olsen missed a 25-yard field goal attempt and got booed in his home stadium. pic.twitter.com/cx2WtJyZKa— Jake Russell (@_JakeRussell) March 8, 2020
mlssoccer.com has a feature on the top MLS academy coaches who may be ready to step up to the first team (as has happened in Dallas and Salt Lake). The first coach mentioned is United's Nate Baker, our under-17 coach and director of scouting. They also mention Ryan Martin from Loudoun FC.
In the past month, DC United has not conceded a goal, lost a game and have yet to be beaten on the road. Y'all owe Ben Olsen an apology.
Most of the Olsen criticism has been the lack of production of his team's offense. Scoring has been sadly lacking in the past month. There is a reason there have been no new highlight film of the club.
No chance for this year. So, at a minimum it would be May 2021 at the earliest. Damn. ...yes - this disappoints me.
I really wanted to see Ben lead us in these. https://www.dcunited.com/post/2020/05/04/day-6-cardio-ben-olsen?autoplay=true
I know it won't happen this way, but if Ben can't get this team out of the first round of this tourney than firing would be appropriate.
The more politic, and likely approach, would be to fire Ashton and appoint Higuain as Assistant Head Coach, while remaining on the active roster. Ben can't be totally removed from DC United - he is and,I think, will remain a DC resident, and he has infused the team with a particular spirit. A bump upstairs, ultimately, is much more likely.
