Good Wynalda article. I believe now it's time for the game to be marketed to the true soccer fans. It is extremely annoying to be watching a match and the announcers dumb it down and explain every little rule. There are enough people who grew up playing soccer who understand the game and can support the MLS in its purest form. We need to make the game palatable for the euro snobs. If Manchester United can draw 60,000 fans the MLS shpuld be able to draw at least 25,000/game (eventually).
Excellent article. He's a smart guy, and I sgree that you have to let soccer grow rather than coming up with a "gimmick of the week" to sell it. I'd buy him a beer... or 20. *checks wallet* Ok maybe like two at the most.
I really wish we could have kept Waldo around another year or so. It was really awesome having such an established and well-known US national teamer come to the club. No rag on Boca or DaMarcus or Armas at all, mind you, but we basically made them national teamers...Waldo had been around forever and it was freat to see a guy like him suit up and play so hard for us. Maybe he doesn't say it but I have got to think he liked playing here more than anywhere else.
