http://www.dailysouthtown.com/south...st/011seyt2.htm This was a waste of ink. It brought nothing new to the so called debate. I farted more eloquently this morning.
I wouldn't expect the people on these boards to be very satisfied with either article. Only something on the level of "Fever Pitch" would ever come close to capturing the true nature of the die-hards. But, you have to consider the audience; the great unwashed masses who are only dimly aware of soccer or who, "keep meaning to get out to a game sometime, you know take the kids." The Lavoie article was really good in that regard and will probably appeal to a lot of fence-sitters. Very flattering to the Fire organization and to all of us. As for the Jim Hook article... I think it was a slow news day and Mr. Hook picked up a press release out of the trash bin and decided to barf up a couple hundred words in about half an hour's work. It really adds nothing to what even the great unwashed know about soccer and it's situation in this country.
I'm trying to fathom why they talked to freaking Ray O'Connell. Out of the soccer programs and coaches in this city and you pick Ray? Well, I don't like the guy at least.
