All three october games will be in Soldier Field and soccer stadium news

Peter said all three October games will be played in Soldier field this year and one maybe with an international doubleheader. One maybe moved to a Wednesday to accomodate Bear schedule.

Also a proposal will be announced monday for approval to build a soccer specific stadium in some community in the area.

Is it safe to assume that the stadium will be built in the city? I loved going to the team in Naperville last year because of the close proximity (or at least closer) to me in Crystal Lake, and the the tight confines of the stadium. But I hope that they plan to build a stadium in the city.

Wasn't the Soldier Field deal contingent on them only looking to build a soccer stadium within city limits?

That was reported but subsequently debunked by PW.

We're still a long way off of that, though.

We'll be fine at SF for the near future.

Wooa hoss, let's hear more about this. Did PW mention anything else about this? City/burb, anything?

He made the announcement before the full crowd at the luncheon. I did see him after the luncheon and did ask him about the October SF games but did not press him about the stadium announcement as I got the feeling he was intentionally vague and didn't want to say which community.

So it is true that the Fire will eventually get a SSS? That is indeed great news. SF isn't the answer to the Fire's needs IMO. Nice news to hear. Good luck Chicago fans, I hope the stadium is built sooner than later.

You know, any news on this is good, but if this proposal is for a place, I dunno, 42.52 or 41.17 miles from Downtown Chicago, I'm gonna be more than a bit dissapointed we aren't just taking our time to find the best deal possible and not jumping at the first opportunity.

We will have to wait until Monday to get the details but when he said a community I did get the feeling he wasn't talking about the city of Chicago.
I think this is a proposal to be announced, not a definite statement that a stadium will be built or that an agreement has been reached on all financial details.

    clarification

Fire is issuing a request for proposals on Monday, not a proposal. Pretty big difference. The RFP will go out to dozens of communities - near and far suburbs as well as city of Chicago.

    41 miles?!

41 miles? No problem, how about right here in Waukegan!! An inaugural match with Morelia and we'd pack 'em in! OK, all kidding aside, let's hope we can stay within city limits.....I dunno...Meigs is closed, would a Fire House fit?

  13. Re: clarification

Peter, thanks for the clarification. Hey the horse track in Maywood is for sale and I hear that Meigs field isn't being used for anything right now....hehe.

Okay, as an out-of-stater, I've gotta hear more about this. Is this a real possibility? Anyone else know of this place?

And a raving drunk too. Why one time he massacred a bunch of Dallas Texas State Fair parking lot attendants just for looking at him funny...

    ...oh, sorry. That's Mike Segroves.

PW is the one over there staring at the tv with the giant "MARQUETTE #1" foam finger.

    Might I add, "Jesuit Power!"

Better not be in Aurora ;). Congrats to the team for a great Luncheon. Hope that announcement by Peter wasn't a little peer pressure from the big boss De Garber!!!! He is going to have a hard time of it if that hack Nick S get's something done in NY before we do. Good job to the organization. Great time today. Look forward to seing everyone again this year and back at SF this fall!

What I am trying to say is that this is something that should have been happening ever since Arlington died!!!!!!!!! I think we have already been getting proposals! This is nothing new! It shouldn't be atleast.

I'm thinking there are one or two possibilities already in motion as MLS Confidential said that a lot of work was going on behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, I don't think Chicago will ultimately be in the mix. We recently saw how all powerful Mayor Dick Daley is, and I don't see us getting his blessing when he needs the dates at SF.

It would be nice to see SOMEBODY mount a challenge to Daley one day. Not necessarily to beat him, but just to keep him honest.

    Re: clarification

    PW,
lemme get this straight. You made and announcement that basically says "We're asking to ask a question?"
Oh man, LOL please tell me I'm wrong on this one. I deal with enough RFP's @ work and when I read this I couldn't stop laughing. I think you're all good but this is cracking me up this Friday morning.

If Maywood park is in the mix then it's all good. Anyone who knows it's a good call.
