with a first name issa, it will always sound like something jar jar is about to say. for this reason, I'm out
It's becoming obvious that Bez was pushed out by the team's Francophile wing. I understand that Courtois’ departure doesn’t support that narrative, but I stand by the claim. Fortunately for me, I studied French in college.
I went out with a French chick a couple times. I studied her pretty good. I don't recall her mentioning soccer though.
https://aupanthers.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/issa-tall/1856 Per his college profile he is 5-11 so he is taller than average, provided this is accurate. These are rarely accurate though.
I hear Grande is only about 5'1" and likes to spend a lot of time singing. That might of cut into the time that is needed to run the team.
What do you mean?!? His name is right in the middle of the word MASSIVE. The clues are there if one would just know where to look.
I just watched Issa’s introductory press conference, and wow, the guy is impressive. He comes across as equally intelligent as Bez, extremely driven, and someone who 1,000% wants to be here and win here. I think we are in very good hands.
As I said elsewhere, I was fortunate enough to talk to him once, he’s very smart. And he really gets how club structure needs to work, from academy to first team. He used Basel as an example (he worked for FIFA in Switzerland for a bit IIRC).
He was smart enough to shout out the fans, specifically the traveling support we’ve seen this season, as well as the media for their coverage of the team. He pointed out that the media coverage here has grown a lot since 2019 and is better than what a lot of MLS teams receive. So right off the bat he gets the fans and media on his side. Pretty smart game plan if you ask me.
Terrible fatigued Friday chant incoming: And Issa Tall, Issa Tall, Issa Tall, Issa Taaaall, Issa Tall’s reeeeiiign’s a gonna BALL!
https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...nager-interview-tim-bezbatchenko/74006433007/ Good behind the scenes article looking at his hiring, he also says that he removed himself from the DC United GM position: “Tall was in the running with D.C. United and was a finalist for the role until he removed himself from the race toward the end due to feeling Columbus was a better fit. ‘"It was a good exercise to go through, but that's when you also realize that this club is special," Tall said. "When you go visit other clubs and you meet other people, you realize that our ownership group and staff that we have at this club is second to none.’”
Here's some more details of the Bez departure / Issa promotion. Bez's departure was known internally for a few weeks before the news was made public. Bez was always good about bringing his team with him to meetings with ownership, so ownership is already very comfortable working with Issa. Issa withdrew his name from the DCU GM search because he didn't want to leave Columbus. Issa and Nancy have a very close relationship and have known each other for about a decade. This should hopefully mean they can work well together when it comes to building the roster. Issa played a large role in signing Cucho, Nagbe, and Nancy. https://sports.yahoo.com/crew-exclusive-long-haslams-felt-101041925.html
I think Tall is doing fine and while I want another CB, better CM with u22s and a DP striker that’s a minor knock on a otherwise good transition from Bez
