And that is it! Another early goal and a 1-0 win. Should have been way, way more, but a win is a win. MHS was a star tonight. He was all over the field tonight.
The Fire are currently SECOND in the East! 13 points from 7 matches. Only 5 goals conceded in 7 matches, second best (to Nashville) 3 wins, 1 draw in four home matches. AND playing without our best player in Cuypers.
We did lose at home to DC, but getting 3 wins so far at home is a big improvement from last year when we didn't get our 1st home win until May 10. It took until July 19 for us to get to 3 wins at home last year . . . that's kind of unbelievable. I'm coming to terms with Mbokazi being sold in the relatively near future. There's no way we don't get serious offers for him soon, particularly if he has a good WC. What a find.
That game really needed more than one goal. I've said it before, I'll keep saying it, the Fire needed a backup striker this offseason. And the past couple games really made that clear with Cuypers out.
True, but one was enough to win!!! We ALL said that we need a backup striker (for the past two years). Instead of a backup, we will get Lewandowski!
Not many times in my career (as a player or analyst) would I describe a centerback as must watch, but Mbekezeli Mbokazi is phenomenal. Just oozes quality, but defensively he’s so strong. Exactly what’s led to the defensive turnaround from the Fire. 5 goals conceded in 7 games 🔥— Dax McCarty (@DaxMcCarty11) April 12, 2026
My students have been laughing when I pronounce their names during roll call, so I've started making them pronounce the names of random Polish players and so far the only one they've gotten right has been Lewandowski.
