‘Even is on’ has been the rule of thumb for a while…
The change coming, but not yet Implemented is ‘fully behind is off’, aka ‘daylight’, versus any overlap is on, versus the last World Cup was strict ‘even is on, no part behind’[IMG]

Not sure what the 2026 MLS rule is, but ‘the defenders foot’ sounds like MLS VAR is implementing the daylight rule before it’s actually the rule

    edit: looked it up,
2026 MLS offside rule continues to follow IFAB Law 11, where an attacker is offside if ANY part of their head, body, or feet is nearer to the opponents’ goal line than both the ball & the 2nd-last opponent.

Parallax is what it is, but the defender’s foot is deeper than ANY part of the attacker?

Nah, in fact the attackers knee looks just like the graphic used to show the rule:cautious:

The given justification for VAR is to eliminate/ minimize “clear and obvious” game-changing errors by officials. This may be a valid reason for the disruption VAR inflicts on matches. Maybe.
Not what I am seeing out there.
What has evolved is an entity striving for perfection in an always imperfect world. Fix it or shitcan it completely.
Too close to unneeded, cumbersome, ineffective government regulations for me!

Players make mistakes, coaches make mistakes, referees make mistakes. It’s just part of the game. Imagine if a coach could call a “do over” on a sub and rewind the game or if a PK taker missed and could do the same. It’s stupid.

PLUS interpretation is a part of the game…as simple as strict/tight vs let them play/loose…in this instance the refs don’t call anything and the booth needing to justify their existence inserted themselves and changed the game.

The shirt tug = red did not match how the rest of the game was being called.

Would you all be reacting with the same outrage if the situation had been reversed and it was our forward who was fouled despite possibly being a smidge offsides?

    I doubt it.

Things happen in matches. Sometimes in our "favor," sometimes against us.

    It was a week ago.
Time to move on to whatever outrage happens in the match starting in two hours.

VAR still exists which makes it worth discussing.

The VAR video and discussion was just posted/released.

And yes, my issue is more with consistency of calls than THAT call against us…it didn’t fit with the way the game was being called and was not just a sideline possession call…the impact included tonight’s game!

I had way more issue with the player falling so easily to draw it then any issue with VAR. Ruins the so called beautiful game when players act so weak to get calls.

Your black line is inaccurately placed. It shouldn’t be parallel with the grass/paint line to the right.

That’s actually why I switched(in my early20s) from playing soccer to playing ultimate…spirit of the game was alive and well in that scene.

I let that drawn line go…parallax is wonky, but I agree

kooky side note, had Dean not gotten as good of a tug as he did, he would have been clearly and obviously off sides
