Fire close to clinching East

With a game in hand over the rest of the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Fire can move closer to clinching the top spot in the East with a win tonight over the Colorado Rapids.

By gaining six points in their next two games, the Fire will be nearly assured of victory in the race for home-field advantage. If the Fire win their next two and both D.C United and the MetroStars fail to win, Chicago’s quest for first place will be complete.

I might as well be honest in saying that … (Peter Hirdt alert! I’m making a prediction) I believe the champion when it’s all said and done will come from the West. If it’s not the ‘Quakes, then I think it’ll be the Rapids. In that order, too.

I dunno if anyone's noticed this, but if we win the East this year, I think will be the only team to win every region in MLS that ever existed (West, Central, and East).
