So, Porter makes excuse after excuse after a loss and then acts like an ass about it.

    I’m shocked.

Good news is, following his typical trend of a great year followed by a pathetic year (third time now) we’re definitely making the playoffs next year!

I can see looking for something good to say about your team. Even if it's bullshit.

But claiming that Miami is one of the best teams in the conference... I mean, WTF. That's just plain delusional. He's lost his ********ing mind. Based on his stint in Portland, when should we expect him to quit and slink off to his house in South Carolina? Soon, I hope.

The team needs new ideas. Last night was a culmination of "this shit's not working".

Here’s the season-long xG stats for Porter’s three years in charge:

(Keep in mind stats for 2020 are a little off due to the shortened season).

    Offense

    2021 xG current: 24.6 (26th out of 27 teams)

    2021 xG final projection: 34.85

    2020 xG: 30.8 (14th out of 26 teams)

2020 xG pace for full season: 40.28

    2019 xG: 37.1 (21st out of 24 teams)

    Defense

    2021 xG current: 31.1 (14th out of 27 teams)

    2021 xG final projection: 44.05

    2020 xG: 29.9 (14th out of 26 teams)

2020 xG for full season: 40.27

    2019 xG: 41.8 (4th out of 24 teams)

    —————————————————

If you’re not an xG fan, here are the raw goal total:

    Offense

    2021 current: 23 (23rd out of 27 teams)

    2021 final projection: 33

    2020: 34 (8th of out 26 teams)

2020 pace for full season: 44

    2019: 37 (22nd out of 24 teams)

    Defense

    2021 current: 33 (19th out of 27 teams)

    2021 final projection: 47

    2020: 21 (2nd of out 26 teams)

2020 pace for full season: 27

    2019: 47 (9th out of 24 teams)

    ———————————————————-

    Conclusions

    Offense

In 2020, we over-performed on our league average xG to finish with a top 1/3 offense.

In 2019 and 2021, our near-bottom of the league xG has lead to bottom of the league goals.

    Defense

In 2019, our defensive xG was great, and while the actual goals allowed wasn’t as good, it was still good enough to finish top 1/3.

In 2020 and 2021, we had the 14th best defensive xG, though in 2020 we way over-performed it and had the 2nd best defense, and this year things are evening out and we’re bottom 1/3 (and might get worse).

xG - G difference (meaning how we over or under performed our xG:

    2021 current

    Offense: 23 G - 24.6 xG = -1.6 G
    Defense: 33 GA - 31.1 xG = +1.9 GA

    2020

    Offense: 34 G - 30.8 xG = +3.2 G
    Defense: 21 GA - 29.9 xG = -8.9 GA

    2019

    Offense: 37 G - 37.1 xG = -0.1 G
    Defense: 47 GA - 41.8 xG = +5.2 GA

2021 current: underperformed offensively and defensively.

    2020: over-performed offensively and defensively.

    2019: underperformed offensively and defensively.

    —————————————————

    TL;DR

Overall, our offense is literally the worst it’s ever been under Porter. Defensively we’re literally as bad as we’ve ever been, but since defense has actually improved league-wide, we’re worse relative to everyone else. Worrying trends, indeed.

It's almost as if Caleb Porter doesn't understand what the entire ********ing point of the sport is.

The play from the 15 minute mark to the 35th minute was really good and a change of pace. Pedro and berry were in really good positions. Everything else stunk.

Hey, Bez: if we were to lose a coach with only 7 wins, wouldn’t it be worth it if we could get a coach that could get 15 wins?

I could swear I've heard a similar sentiment somewhere. Do we also need to talk about his utter catastrophe again with the US U-23's?

The man is a terrible manager with an enormous ego. It would benefit the entire club and fanbase to recognize that last year was a fluke brought on by a once in a lifetime pandemic, and just cut our losses. If ownership gave a shit about the club, or the city....if they were "stewards" Porter doesn't manage next season and preferably not much more this season.

Porter won't even play the kids. Nothing left to lose and yet, no changes.

He did put Matan and Berry on late and they bailed him out.

My biggest issue with Porter is the seemingly endless requests for the team to possess the ball. This recent win is a perfect example. We created next to nothing in possession all game. When we knock it around the back and probe, we win a few corners and free kicks but we never really put the opponent under any real threat. Then, we suddenly play more direct (a quick dribble into a 1-2 pass for Matan) and suddenly we're getting looks at goal. The second was a classic counter attack. A quick vertical ball into space, a charge down the flank and suddenly we're in business. Even the other good look in the first half from Diaz was on a couple quick passes that started with a throw in deep in our own half.

Why do we continue to rely on Mensah and Afful to generate our offensive moves?

Anyway, I think the players won this most recent one in spite of Porter's efforts and I still think he should be fired at the end of the season at the latest and really as soon as possible.

I'd argue for the day after we officially fail to qualify for the playoffs.

The Athletic is reporting RSL is interviewing Landon Donovan for their vacant head coaching position. He already knows Berry, maybe we need to be getting in touch with his agent that we might have a spot for him if he waits a few more weeks before making a decision....

He is the manager of San Diego Loyal.

    Is that not a coach?

I just want to say that it warms the cockles of my heart that no one is calling for Guillermo to be hired as the manager of Columbus.

Failure at LA doesn’t mean he can’t succeed here also just because he is on the list near the top doesn’t mean he is your only option or #1 option

I think Guillermo is closer to the manager who won trophies for Boca, and was hired by Palermo, than the manager who walked into a dysfunctional LA Galaxy organization that didn't understand that they were in transition and bungled every aspect of it.

He's not my first choice by any means, but he's ahead of Porter on my list.

I was joking but thanks for the detailed list.

I wouldn't want Sarri to be smoking on the sidelines of LDC either ;)
