Who is making the decision (final say)? Onstad? Greenly? Precourt?

I once told people not to deviate from talk of booing a player if he were running downtown...

I have turned the page. This place is going to be a many years-long tongue bath for Porter.

Well at least you have admitted your inability to look at this hire and future results objectively.

To be honest though reddit might be a better platform for your years long troll job....

It's time for another round of story time with Flyer Fan. This morning I went downstairs to eat breakfast. My wife, who wakes up about 30 minutes before I do, was eating breakfast.

MFF: "The Crew got a new coach."

    FF: "Is it Caleb Porter?"

    MFF: "I think so."

    FF: "Is it official?"

MFF: "It was in my breaking news, so I guess."

FF: "Oh, man, Sedley is going to be pissed."

    MFF: "Why?"

FF: "He thinks Porter is an asshole."

    MFF: "Why?"

FF: "I don't know for sure, but man he really thinks he's an asshole." I then tell her about the night before MLS Cup.

MFF: "But, seriously, does he have a lot of evidence of the new coach being an asshole?"

FF: "I don't know. You know Seds and sports."

MFF: "Well, yeah, he is very passionate about his teams."

I would imagine that I have as much (or most likely as little) objectivity in this hire as you do. Hate, like love, blinds.

Let MFF know that even Timon admitted that Caleb Porter "is probably an asshole."

You waited 12 hours in between replies to the same post to admit you lack objectivity here?

Sigi was an asshole but brought us a cup. I could care less what Porter’s personality is as long as he wins.

After GB boring us to death with his monotone style, a little panache and assholery might not be the worst thing ever.

    Thanks for asking, buddy.

To be honest, I am still shaken from being one punch on my punch card away from a free falafel only to drive up and see my falafel joint has closed. It's been rough, but I feel like I can carry on with the help of my Crew family and people like you.

I know. It's almost like hang's whole "no trophies" shtick was just the vessel for him to be a dick about everything. Hiring a guy who's won the very trophy he wants our club to win should be a step in the right direction, yes?

Look, it's been covered at length here and elsewhere. The problem isn't ONLY that Caleb Porter is an asshole. That's universally excepted by even his biggest fans, save for those in the Tounge Bathing Caleb Porter Erotica Fan Fiction Book Club.

The problem is, he's not a great coach. As has been stated ad nauseam here and elsewhere, the guy hasn't won an MLS Cup playoff game since 2015 despite having one of the most talented rosters in the league at Portland. He missed the playoffs completely on the back of winning MLS Cup, which speaks to his problems in man management and maintaining success. I understand he won an MLS Cup against a very poorly prepared Gregg Berhalter led side. Congratulations to him on that.

The simple fact is he was nowhere near the best available option for this team. The simple fact is it's a lazy hire. The simple fact is that it lacks the ambition that even the San Jose Earthquakes made with their hire.

Other than that and the fact he's a total asshole, it's wonderful hire.

I want our club to win ALL THE TROPHIES, not just MLS Cup.

Porter is, at best, a lateral move from Gregg Berhalter. So yes, it is a step in a direction just probably not the right one.

You are off your rocker if you label the hire as a mere lateral move. Lay out their coaching careers, side by side, and I would think even the hardest critic in the Porter is an asshole camp could not say that without a red face.

    Lateral, my ass.

Woof. This is a bad take. This must have been what you were talking about when you said love blinds. Let's look at the stats.

Caleb Porter - 5 years as an MLS coach, 256 points, 51.2 avg points per season, 2 conference finals, 1 MLS Cup Final, 1 MLS Cup win, two years where he missed the MLS Cup playoffs entirely. Didn't win a single MLS Cup playoff game in his final two years in charge.

Gregg Berhalter - 5 years as an MLS Coach, 246 points, 49.2 avg points per season, 2 conference finals, 1 MLS Cup final, only 1 year where he missed the playoffs.

It's extremely comparable. I'm sure that Caleb Porter Fan Fiction Erotica Book Club probably views his time coaching at Akron as having more weight that Gregg's time coaching in Europe, and you are entitled to that wrong opinion.

Gregg was the only candidate for USMNT coach. Caleb Porter was never considered, in large part due to Caleb Porter being an asshole.

But yeah, unfortunately the stats as far as their MLS success are extremely comparable. And frankly, distressing giving the talent that Porter had to work with in Portland compared to what Berhalter had in Columbus.

But yes, let's talk more about the Akron Zips.....
