Remember when Porter promised exciting attacking soccer and all the soccer experts on this board lapped it up and told us to prepare for the era of “90 minutes of hell.” Do you think this is what they had in mind?
Porter says that he needs to go back to the drawing board, and that may mean some guys may never play again #Crew96— Ty Fisher (@FisherTyler__) September 18, 2022 Caleb Porter just needs more time to implement his system
I'm still surprised at how porter has coached this team. When we hired him, I expected high pressure soccer with tons of yellow cards. Instead, we get overly possessive and even more conservative than berhalter ball at quadruple the price. There's so many things wrong with his coaching that it should be like an athletic or substack article. He is awful (and he has somewhat of an excuse today with the poor referring).
There are several players that need shipped off, but I dont want Porter in charge anymore to make those decisions for game plans.
You can buy a left back and a winger. Upgrades in those positions and a new coach would do a ton for this team.
Do we need a total rebuild or a coach who can get his team to stay focused for 90 minutes and extra time?
Perfectly said. This team has forfeited about 20 points due to bad substitutions and late-game tactics, a passable coach can hold on to at least half of those dropped points which would have us sitting at 3rd in the East right now.
It's been five hours, and I'm still shaking when I think about it. We still have the fourth best defense in the league. It blows my mind that we can be so good at defending in the first 75-85 minutes, and so poor in the final minutes. It's a mental block at this point. It's happened so many times that they just expect it to happen to them again.
Good news and bad news: The bad news is that we stink. The good news is that with this draw and Miami’s win, we can now say that we have three wins against playoff teams, since Miami is now in the final playoff spot and we beat them back in August. Silver linings and whatnot. Who says I’m not a positive guy lol.
Or maybe we need more depth to sub in fresh defenders & midfielders we definitely need to counter better at end of games when teams push numbers. We don’t make teams pay for being agressive. Not many times have we had multiple goal leads. We have won 3 games by multiple goals Vancouver Dc United most recently Cincinnati ( July) all our games have been pretty close we have only lost 3 games by multiple goals Orlando in April In May to NYFC & LAFC
You know, it's funny. The first time we played Portland under Caleb I remember talking with a Timbers supporter about a bunch of stuff. Then, unprompted they say: "Good luck with Porter. You all will need it." Little did we know...
We all know about this stat when the other team has the ball your automatically going to play a lil deeper . Also depends on where the other team wins possession. I don’t believe for one second that Porter tells them to drop that deep. Todays loss happened after we failed to clear the ball on a long throw. They got a fortunate bounce and the Moreno guy made the most of his chance after it deflected back to him. we had opportunities In 2nd half and missed our chances. Vrs Miami we hit the post 2x sometimes things just don’t go your way. We need to do better , I think Porter is wrong to throw Yeboah under the bus but he definitely took a touch like he was trying to dribble out instead of clearing it. Our bench offers not much talent . I agree with Porter but wish he had not named the player. Not like every gm it’s Yaw making the mistake. It’s been a lil bit of everyone. Players , Porter , asst coaches , Bez , scouts and all deserve some blame. Although everyone deserves some blame ,you win and lose as a team. So the issue he has should of been a private conversation not a public rebuke. He talked bad about Zardes after he left. I definitely think Porter is a asshole and it’s a good chance a lot of players don’t like him. We would need a insider to know how true that is.
