OK not trolling but I literally started crying when I saw Japan upset Spain and wonder why aren't we anywhere close to doing that cool stuff.
------------ YES ! Just ask Belgium and Germany who are always 'favorites" in many peoples eyes. WE have not given up a goal in the run of play and the PK goal we gave up was simply one poor challenge
------------------------- Its so bad that Europe scouts MLS and lots of players make the jump to other leagues in Europe.. Does anyone know if Europe scouts Mexico as well and if so, how many players make the jump vs MLS.
MLS has failed to deliver what was promised for the '94 WC and after 26 years the US still hasn't reached top level of competitiveness. Japan moved further ahead despite launching the J-League around the same time. If you remember back then they said MLS would make the US a contender by 2010 and we're way past that deadline.
What does "contender" mean to you and why? Only what, 8 countries have ever won the WC. So what if the founders of MLS said that? Why are you taking it literally? It was an aspirational statement. Did you fail to grasp that? Do you take all figures of speech literally?
im not sure the only match with no mlsers starting being our only win is the sick burn you think it is... (im completely agnostic on mls vs not, so dont bother replying)
. Confederations Cup 2009. Also, the same Japan team lost to Costa Rica in its previous game. Whenever the US loses to Costa Rica in WCQ, folks freak out and insist MLS is holding us back. So I guess the J-League was holding Japan back three days ago. But even more so because the WC is more important than WCQ.
I'm surprised at some of the posters here who, comparing CONCACAF to Africa and Asia, seem to think that this is the only World Cup that has ever been played. CONCACAF has not always done has badly as it has at this World Cup, and Africa and Asia have not always done as well. Over the last two World Cups, 2014 and 2018, CONCACAF had 4 of 7 teams advance out of the Group Stage, while Africa had 2 of 10 and Asia had 1 of 8.
He literally started crying guys. Come on y’all, be moved by his strange emotional swings over random barely-related sporting events.
Sweet Jesus. 1. We just qualified out of the Group of Death. Again. 2. Japan is the only non-European team besides us to make the R16 in 3 of the last 4 WCs. Only Argentina and Brazil have done better than us. 3. Spain had already qualified for the R16. They knew that by losing they would face Morocco rather than Croatia. Whom would you rather face? Oh, and by losing they eliminated Germany. Your Debbie Downer argument isn't working.
Correcting myself before someone else does. Mexico has also made it 3 times since 2010 and Ghana can do so if they make it through today.
This WC was a disaster for Canada, no doubt about it, but they had a hard schedule, and were actually pretty good vs. Belgium and probably deserved a result...
Are you posting this from an alternate universe where the US didn't make it into the round of 16 in the WC? Because, if you live in our reality (where the US made it out of a pretty tough group), what you wrote makes no sense.
That is the frustrating part. Berhalter has felt pressure multiple times and reduced MLS players minutes to turn around and put the same players back out there once things have settled down. He clearly isn't as clueless as it appears. Note that once we had a lead and decided we were going to try to kill the game off, he put on few of those lesser players. This was only Berhkater's second time starting all euro based players. I dont think it is a surprise that the first half was miles better than the team has ever played. It is pretty amazing how much better we were moving the ball out of the back with competent CB on the ball instead of Zimmerman. Not that startling that the second Acosta stepped on the field the level dropped significantly.
FWIW, this is only the second or third time that an all European starting lineup has been done in official competitions in USMNT history.
Its depressing when an obvious troll posts nonsense, and then the usual suspects come on reinforcing the con job. Japan has made the round of 16 in 3 of the last 4 World Cups. The US has made the round of 16 in 3 of the last 4 World Cups. In case people didn't notice, Japan also has domestic players on their roster.
