Scored a nice goal in a crappy match yesterday. It stood for about 10 seconds. :)
Looked OS to me, it was always coming back.

The media do like to put words in other people’s mouths.
Then the player looks bad denying it.

quite the kerfuffle in the Brazil-Colombia game .......

Casemiro scored deep into stoppage time to give hosts Brazil a controversial win over Colombia in the Copa America.
    An acrobatic volley
[a great bicycle kick goal] by Luis Diaz gave Colombia an early lead in their final Group B game in Rio de Janeiro.
Roberto Firmino's late equaliser was allowed to stand despite the ball hitting the referee moments earlier, sparking lengthy protests by Colombia.
And in the 10th minute of added time, Casemiro headed in from a Neymar corner to maintain Brazil's 100% record.
Brazil were struggling to draw level when Neymar's wayward pass forward struck Nestor Pitana, who took charge of the 2018 World Cup final.
The Argentine referee put his whistle to his mouth but allowed play to continue once Lucas Paqueta had played the ball wide to Renan Lodi, whose first-time cross was headed in by Liverpool forward Firmino.

There was a lengthy stoppage as Colombia players remonstrated with Pitana, before and after the video assistant referee let the goal stand.
The rules state that if the ball touches the referee and goes directly into the goal, results in a change of possession or a promising attack, a dropped ball should be awarded. Neymar's pass would have been intercepted by a Colombia player had it not struck the referee, yet six seconds later the ball was in their goal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is making positive progress in his recovery from injury.

The Liverpool right-back sustained a thigh problem that would rule him out of Euro 2020 during England’s pre-tournament friendly against Austria last month.

He has been working hard throughout the summer, though, and has offered an encouraging update on his fitness. “Every day’s a new step, every day’s getting better, getting fitter and I think going into pre-season we’ll be good,” Alexander-Arnold told the BBC.

“Obviously [I’ve had] a few weeks of rest and then [I’ll be] hitting the season and trying to push on from there.”

The US beat canada 1-0 with a relatively inexperienced roster.
Only saw the highlights, they seemed to do some good things going forward.
May be in the minority, but I actually like the jerseys.

They look better when they're worn by the players but still a huge headache when you look at the design.

I like that they're actually taking chances and trying rather than just trotting out some bland, monochramatic shirt that is nearly indistinguishable from the previous two versions.

Don't care about the jerseys :))), the team looked awful after Zimmerman went out early in the game. Everyone is making Canada out to be a real test because they won 8 in a row against island minnows, but they're still Canada. This is our 'C' team though their display was disappointing.

With the September international break looming, one major concern for Liverpool fans was what would happen to Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Brazilian trio Roberto Firmino, Fabinho Tavares, and Alisson Becker given current government mandates would force them into quarantine on their return.

Today, it’s clear that the club itself is highly concerned by the situation—as are many other clubs across England and Europe—with news that they intend to block the release of Salah for one of Egypt’s upcoming matches and to stop the Brazilian trio from joining their national team entirely.

That action will be undertaken in coordination with the European Club Association, who are taking the collective stance that players who would be required to quarantine on their return to clubs due to the situation in countries being played in by their national teams should not be released.

That decision would block Salah from joining Egypt for their home game against aNgola on September 1st. However, it would allow him to then join up for a game in Gabon on the 5th. For Brazil, with games set to be played in Chile and Brazil in September, the players would not be released at all.

It’s about time this was properly addressed not FIFA’s usual “… hoping this will go away on its own …”

That along with all the fu ckery surrounding Qatar 2022 should be enough reason to cancel that tournament.

good solidarity from the Prem clubs.

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/breaking-premier-league-statement-clubs-24830195
The Premier League have announced that its clubs will NOT release players for September internationals being played in red-list countries.

The 20 top-flight clubs unanimously decided not to release players and have been strongly supported by the governing body.

It will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs, including Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Wolves forward Raul Jimenez. It comes following clubs attempts to lobby Government officials - as exclusively revealed by Mirror Sport at the weekend - to allow their stars to not have to quarantine upon their respective returns.

In what will no doubt be a major club versus country row, Premier League clubs say they “reluctantly but unanimously” acted. “Extensive discussions have taken place with both The FA and the Government to find a solution, but due to ongoing public health concerns relating to incoming travellers from red-list countries, no exemption has been granted.

“If required to quarantine on return from red list countries, not only would players’ welfare and fitness be significantly impacted, but they would also be unavailable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a UEFA club competition matchday and the third round of the EFL Cup.

“This period takes into consideration 10 days of hotel quarantine on return to England but does not include any additional time that would be required for players to regain match fitness."

    it gets worse ....

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has asked UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for exemptions so Premier League clubs will release players for World Cup qualifiers in red-list countries.

Clubs in England and Spain say they will not release their players for matches in red-list countries.

"I have suggested an approach similar to the final stages of Euro 2020 be implemented," said Infantino.
VIPs could attend later-stage Euro 2020 matches without having to isolate.

Infantino said it was a "matter of great urgency and importance. We have faced global problems together in the past and must continue to do so in the future," he added.

"I am calling on a show of solidarity from every member association, every league, and every club, to do what is both right and fair for the global game. Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world."
