About time. Congrats to one of the greatest Redskins of alltime and a great man. What the press mistook for sullen and surly was actually shyness and introspection. I met Art in '82 at the Redskins Welcome Home luncheon and he took the time to talk with me and my mom for a couple of minutes. He was nothing but polite and gracious. I'm so happy for him..... and me, cause now I don't have to drive to Canton to egg the place.
A great man, on and off the field and, for my money, the best football player SU ever produced outside of Jim Brown
Not a Redskins fan but still don't see why Monk didn't make it sooner. Someone who held that many records and was great performer in the postseason shouldn't have to wait. Darryl was an obvious first ballot guy.
I can see why some would make a distinction between Monk and other great receivers. He wasn't really dominant. He was just ultra reliable and really good for an extended period of time. More of a possession receiver then a guy who took over games ala Irvin, Rice, Moss, etc... But, he is probably the greatest possession receiver of all time. A guy who caught 8 yard passes on 3rd and 7, a great blocker, a guy who ran his routes hard even when he wasn't in the play, a Super Bowl champion, etc.... You can also get into a huge discussion about the whole 1st ballot thing in general, but that's another story.
I'm a Giants fan D), and as a result don't care for the Skins much, but why in gods name did it take so long to get Monk in? I was at the Monday night game where he broke the all-time receptions record, even as a Skins hater it was great to see. I don't follow the NFL hall that closely and just assumed he got in on the first try. 8 tries???
Apparently 15,000 'Skins fans made the trip to Canton for their induction. Monk received a 4 minute standing ovation. Michael Irvin was unmercifully booed. All is right in the world.
Saw the thread title and thought it was about Zack Wells words at the end of the game.."F****** Finally!"
