I just started following soccer 2 years ago and have only seen Fire matches and the English Premiership on TV.

My wife got me 2 tickets to the Sept. 6,
    Fire vs. Crew match.

Think I should get a scarf? My wife said she got me tickets in this special area, where you have to wear red? Is this true? I will anyway to support the club.

I'm as happy as a little girl.

You sound like me a few years ago.

Be careful, soccer fandom is terminal.

I started watching MLS. Then I got digital cable and the wonder that is FSW. I started waking up at 6:30am on Sat/Sun to watch EPL, Bundesliga, Eredivisie and Le Championat (it's changed since).

Now I have a closet full of jerseys and update my rosters on FIFA 2003 every other week.

But for as much as I watch and follow soccer, I still can't win at ChampManager :-(

Wear Red - Have Fun - Go Fire!

After the events of last evening in Naperville, you might want to consider postponing your baptismal experience until the Fire return to Soldier Field in October. The life in the stadium in Naperville is being sucked out by the activities of overzealous macho-wannabees pretending to guard the "morals" of the community from vile things like loud noises, cheering, etc.

He bought the tickets already. Let him go.

And Patrick, have a great time! My first Fire game is certainly one of my favorite memories!

Just be careful not to yell too loudly. You may end up getting a ticket for disturbing the peace. The police officials there have very delicate ears.

    RU Kidding me???

It is in sports arena and a soccer match for starters, NOT tiddly winks!!!

What a joke? And I am very talkative and quite loud at sports events....and NO I'm not a drunk! 1 or 2 beers doesn't constitute being drunk, in my humble opinion.

    GO FIRE!!!

    Go, have fun!

The Naperville brouhaha is overblown. True fans go where the team is - they don't wait for the accomodations to get better.

Of course, now that you're a true fan, you should also plan a trip to the Depot in California - sweet stadium we've got! Cheer your team from there.

Ah, there it is. The 'true fan' canard. I was wondering how long it would take that to show up today.

Blah. The Toolbox is just that...full of tools.

    Bitter, much?

Chicago should be proud that so many have stuck out the Naperville period - but I've lost respect due to the ongoing complaints about being in suburbia, the football lines, no beer, soccer moms, security, yadda, yadda - Your Team is in First Place! Or had you noticed, with all your whining?

LA fans knew that the road trip from hell would affect the season - but hey, we put up with it because we knew the HDC was worth the wait by far. And we're happy to host other team's fans (not only because they help pay for it) so they can get the feel of a great SS stadium and go home energized about their team getting one someday. It's about helping all of MLS. And getting more fans excited like the guy that started this thread. As opposed to sourpusses like you.

Nope. i just don't buy into the B.S. that the Toolbox is the home of all american soccer fans. When we have or own place, that'll be our home. Period.

Yea, we've noticed, and we're happy. But you haven't had the pleasure of going there every game for the past 2 seasons. As I recall, a large number of folks were ecstatic about playing where we are in such an 'intimate setting' before we played match one out there. You'll notice the unbridled blind enthusiasm you advocate has waned quite a bit among most since then.

Being a 'true fan' doesn't mean taking whatever you can get straight up the pooper and smiling all the while. No, that just makes you assraped. The overuse of 'true fan' and that a 'true fan' will go wherever and do whatever no matter how bad he's getting his salad tossed is concrete bull. Granted, there are a lot of things not worth complaining about, but when someone stands up and says, "This is some bull****" and it's for a good reason, that doesn't mean he's not a fan or a 'true fan' or whatever. When you're getting screwed, you say something about it. That's it. And i'm not necesarily talking about the current situation on everyone's mind.

Yawn. Other clubs can go die in a gas barbeque. Go Fire.

    Yeah, well done there guy.

The general point is, since we have the best team in the country, and the best fans in the country, why don't we have the best stadium in the country? ;) And I'm certainly not going to California to see your half-empty toolbox. I'd be jealous, except that you have to support LA to be the home fans there... :p

Buy the scarf, and a jersey while you are at it(Razov or Beasley on the back along with squad number). Welcome to the converted and those born into it. Enjoy!

    BTW, she's a keeper!

Hey, congratulations. I've been a Fire fan for a couple of years, but my first live game was against the Rapids earlier this year. I dragged my little brother and dad, now my brother's a semi-convert, and my dad has gone from indifferent to somewhat liking it, and even has picked out Thornton as his favorite player. Trust me, you'll have a blast, no matter what.

    "Family Budget"?

You have your money, she has hers, you divide up the bills and do what you want with the rest.

I'm not seeing the problem here.

The Beasley jersey you recommend may be a collectors item by September.

I have been trying to set a date with my friend, lives in Aurora (born in England), but he kept with the excuses.

Finally, my wife must of said forget waiting on him to decide and wanted to surprise me for Father's Day. BTW, I am an at home Dad, finishing school and my wife is the bread winner. Even if I was teaching, she still would make more than twice what I would make! LOL.

I'm so happy for Patrick. I got into soccer back in 1998 during the WC. I weighed 350 lbs then. Watching those dudes run up and down that field inspired me, now I weigh 180 and have season tickets to DC United. Football is an awesome sport. The only sport for me now. Except my insane habit of golf. :D

After I got married my wife decided on this fair financial plan for our household: Her money is her money, my money is our money. I would have questioned it but I was afraid my money would go from our money to her money.
