The Philippines leads S Korea 1-0 at HT scored by their young 15 y.o. captain Ari Markey with a brilliant Olimpico of a corner. Korean American Casey Phair was just put in the 2nd half to help deal with the Filipinas physicality. Filipinas is behind in terms of possession but leads the shots on target 2-0 at HT. I hope they can keep the lead. It's their only chance of advancing.
Update 1-1 as S Korea comes back. The goal was controversial as a Filipina defender was fouled and pulled to ground prior to S Korea's goal which the referee ignored.
FT 1-1 Unfortunately S Korea has the better goal differential so they prevent the Philippines from advancing
The S Korea goal was not earned against the Philippines.. Casey Phair deliberately tackled and took down a Filipina defensive player who had the goal to the ground allowing a Korean player to kick the ball on the net when everyone was expecting a foul call that never came. It was a shame since the Philippine's earned their goal when Ari Markey scored an Olimpico from a corner kick to take the lead. against S Korea in the first half. Sad news that Jeff Cheng stepped down at manager of the PWNT. Quite an achievement making it to the women's World Cup. Statement below doesn't hide that there's disagreement going on. http://filipinofootball.blogspot.com/2024/06/official-statement-of-philippine.html Statement by Cheng: To my dear friends, Last Thursday, I informed the Philippine Football Federation Director of National Teams that I am stepping away from my role as Team Manager of the women’s teams. For several months, we tried our best to make things work, under new and very different circumstances. Unfortunately, the situation is not workable. Our priorities and goals do not align, and the PWNT organization that we worked hard to develop in the past years is incompatible with current methods. I want to thank all of you for the support and kindness that you have shown me. It’s through you that our efforts have not gone unnoticed & I am grateful to have shared some of the best football experiences with all of you. Until next time…Maraming salamat! Laban, Filipinas!
checking if this thread can still be expanded or there needs to be a new one created... for relevance! won't be long now:
Hi, @Dernhelm, it's always a pleasure to see you again here. Not sure about the thread: this is an historical one, so it has people subscrided to it and receiving alerts everytime something new is posted, so it sure has this advantage. A new thread would be of course noticed by the more invested people, but it could lose some potential reader/subscriber along the way. But it's really up to how you feel, really.
Mayumi Pacheco from Aston Villa and formerly England U-23 has been called for the upcoming tournanent. https://www.instagram.com/p/DBAy0nnz0hb/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
They also invited NWSL Kansas City Current rookie and former UCLA standout Janae DeFazio. So far though she has only played one game for the Current. Torcaso said they are "equally excited" for Janae DeFazio, who saw action for the Kansas City Current in the NWSL.
want to know a secret? she's a friend especially her mom, hooked me up with a bunch of French kits from Maz's French friends heheheh.
i was wary of needing a new thread because doesn't one thread have a post limit or something? or is that not the case anymore? in any case i was testing to see if i could still post lol. if i couldn't anymore i guess a new thread is the only solution Also hiiiiii! It's been a whirlwind since... i dunno maybe 4 years ago or pre-covid that i got to be more busy as a photographer and a more official role with the NT i'm trying my best to catch up every now and then and of course i haven't forgotten the Bleues and Nadeshiko threads
As far as I know it was the case in the past, but it isn't anymore: for instance, we keep the tradition to open a new Nadeshiko Japan Thread every year, but no-one really forces us to do and, especially, no-one asks us to break the yearly thread if it exceed a certain limit, as it was happening around 2011-2012 (if I am not wrong, the post-limits were dropped around that era, after one of the migrations to a new interface). Congratulations for your official role, and we're always happy to see you around.
Former England national youth team player Maz Pacheco might have accepted the invite to join the Filipinas but England in return invited former Philippines U17 Kaiya Jota to the England U19 women's team for the Algarve Cup
"Under FIFA's eligibility rules, a player who has represented a senior national team and later plays for a different national team at the youth level can potentially switch back to their original senior team, provided they meet certain criteria: 1. The player must not have played in a senior competitive international match for the second country. 2. The switch back to the original senior team must comply with FIFA's regulations regarding player eligibility and nationality. Players who have dual nationality or have represented different national teams at different levels have the option to make such switches, as long as they follow FIFA's regulations and guidelines for player eligibility and nationality." Stanford U commit Kaiya Jota already had one senior cap for the Philippines so theoretically she can still play for the Philippines later on even if she played for England at the youth level.
FT Philippines 3-0 Jordan Maz Pacheco was at training camp but did not play as her passport is still being processed. Fellow newcomer Janae DeFazio had an impressive debut providing a couple of assists that led to goals. Bolden with a brace followed by a lone goal by Guillou.
I noticed you are covering the national women's lacrosse team on Facebook as well. Congrats to them for qualifying for the World Women's Lacrosse Championship. The women's futsal team is a bit of a mess though with the sudden change in coaches.
The planned Filipinas February training camp in S California was cancelled because of the fires in the area. Instead they will relocate to Manila. The US ID camp will instead be held in April. Aside from Aston Villa's Maz Pacheco, a new top tier defender/midfielder 21 y.o. Emma Tovar who plays for Valencia CF Femenino in Spain's top Liga F has joined the team. She has had 53 appearances and 6 goals for Valencia B prior to getting promoted to the A team.

Busy schedule for the Filipinas The Philippine national women’s football team is set to fly to China in April to compete in the CFA International Women’s Football Tournament. They added another player (Skye Leach U of Kentucky) to the training camp making it 10 new players to add to the 32 player training camp roster. Among those newcomers some stood out for their professional experience in Europe including defender Kaela Hansen who played for KuPS in Finland, where she helped her team nab the silver medal in the Kansallinen Liga. Before that, she played in Serbia where she won both the Serbian Women’s Super League and the League Cup. She also has high experience in club football, having participated in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification phases with both her teams in Finland and Serbia. She is currently playing in the Canadian Northern Super League with AFC Toronto. The former Canadian national youth team defender was a regular for the University of Kansas where she won the Big 12 Tournament, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16, and making a total of three NCAA Tournament appearances. Emma Tovar is also a defender who plays for top-flight Spanish football league Liga F with Valencia, where she’s played since 2022. Tovar has reverted back-and-forth between the reserve squad and the main team. During her stint with the reserve team, she made 53 appearances and scored six goals. This season, she has a total of seven appearances for the team in the league with her longest stint coming with 82 minutes of action in a 2-0 loss against Elbar.
