    HT Philippines 1-0 New Zealand

Bolden scores on a assist by Eggesvik

Eggesvik's assists are really precise and has added a lot to the Philippine 's attacking plays ever since she joined last June.

    FT New Zealand 2-1 Philippines

Unfortunately the Ferns came back and scored 2 goals in the 2nd half including a controversial PK that got them back into the game.

I think the referee was a little too lenient with the constant fouling by the New Zealand players in the 2nd half and controversially awarded the PK in a 50-50 situation.

The Philippines nearly equalized late in extra time but the ball hit the goalpost instead.

One of the players who tried out in training camp is 16 y.o. forward/mid Chayse Ying a Notre Dame U commit who was very impressive scoring 2 goals in limited minutes as a sub in a friendly against a WPSL(2nd tier) side in camp.

She wasn't able to play in the NZ friendly because she doesn't have a Philippine passport yet but it is exciting to watch her highlight reel on youtube.

Her goals look more spectacular than her fellow Fil Am prospect Ally Watts who plays in the NWSL particularly with her dribbling skills allowing her to take on multiple defenders on the way to goal and unlike Watt she chose the Philippines this early already.

Stajcic said the match could have gone either way with both squads being equal in possessions and shot on goal.

“I thought overall, it was performance were we matched the team that is ranked considerably higher than us. In another day, that result could go our way. Certainly there are a lot of areas to improve on the ball, with our movement, our execution. Overall, it was a good performance against a strong team, experienced team. In some respect, we were maybe unlucky not to get a point out of it. We could have even had a win,” said Stajcic.

“We are always reaching high and that’s why we picked an opponent that were over 30 spots in front of us in the rankings, to test where we are and I think we showed that we can compete in that level if we do everything right,” said Stajcic.

The Ferns employed a lot of professional fouls in the second half which was very frustrating and disrupted the Filipinas rhythm so I hope the PWNT will need to learn from this experience in the future as they will probably see this type of strategy employed against them again in the future. Even the Fern's coach admitted that was part of their plan for the 2nd half.

New Zealand head coach Jitka Klimková is happy her Football Ferns had the “grit” that helped them to find a way to beat the Philippines in their midweek friendly international in Los Angeles.

“I’m very happy that our second half had the grit that we were talking in our locker room with the players and with the team to find a way to win this game and we did it, we found a way,” she said.

Meanwhile, Philippines coach Alen Stajcic said his side would learn much from the loss.

“I think we showed that we can compete in that level if we do everything right, there’s certainly a lot of improvement left in us as well so, best part is we’re working hard and trying to improve every day and trying to get better,” Stajcic said.

” … we had a few niggles and injuries leading into the games so, you know, it was good that a lot of players could complete the game.

“I’m happy that we competed and I’m happy that we showed we’re at this level.

“But ultimately, we have to find a way to win and I’m not gonna be happy with losing, that’s for sure.”

    https://www.friendsoffootballnz.com...limkova-happy-her-side-found-the-grit-to-win/

Nevertheless the match could have gone either way with both squads being equal in possessions and shot on goal in the end so there were still a lot of positives that they can garner from their performance against a team that is 30 spots ahead of them in the rankings.

Filipinas set for friendly matches vs Costa Rica

The Philippine Women’s National Team will travel to Costa Rica in the next FIFA international window in October for a pair of friendly matches against the Costa Rica Women’s National Team.

The Filipinas are setting up camp in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose as they are slated to play La Sele at 7 p.m. on 7 October 2022 (9 a.m. 8 October 2022 in Manila) at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium.

The two teams meet again on 11 October 2022 to cap the Filipinas’ 11-day camp with kick off time and venue to be announced at a later date.

The player list for the camp, possible broadcast and livestream details for the matches will also be announced soon.

PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta welcomed the development, saying these are the types of matches that the Filipinas need in their buildup for the World Cup next year.

“We are pleased that the Filipinas are getting these type of matches as they continue their preparations for the World Cup,” said Araneta.

PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes thanked the Costa Rican Football Association for inviting the Filipinas for the friendly matches and for hosting the camp, which is an integral part of the preparation for the World Cup next year.

“We thank the Costa Rican Football Federation for their assistance and cooperation for making the camp and the matches possible at a time when World Cup-bound teams are also busy setting up camps and matches,” said Gastanes.

The trip to Costa Rica comes on the heels of the Filipinas’ two-week camp in California from the last week of August until 6 September when they played New Zealand in a friendly match at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, California.

“The PWNT is fortunate to have a very supportive team manager in Jeff Cheng, who has been looking after the Filipinas in the buildup to the World Cup,” said Gastanes. “We appreciate Mr. Cheng’s continuous support to the Filipinas.”

Team manager Jeff Cheng, who has been at the helm of the PWNT program since the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, stressed the importance of having as many training camps as possible under coach Alen Stajcic and his staff.

“The team needs as much time together as the players’ schedules will allow, and the more competitive matches we play, the more team cohesion and chemistry will improve,” said Cheng.

He added, “We assure the Philippine football community that the whole PWNFT—management, coaching staff and plays alike—continues to do its best to train and prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year, and the PFF is committed to find ways for the team to get more matches against quality opponents.

Costa Rica qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, after finishing in fourth place in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Mexico last July. La Sele are No. 37 in the FIFA rankings, 16 spots ahead of the Filipinas.

Stajcic stressed the need for the Filipinas to play against higher-ranked nations and teams in different confederations as part of the preparations for the World Cup.

“The friendly matches against Costa Rica in October give us a chance to experience different styles of play after playing against New Zealand early this month,” said Stajcic.

“What’s important for us is to learn and build on these experiences which will be a huge factor in our World Cup campaign next year.”

Stajcic said the goal is to continue improving with the team waiting for the outcome of the official draw of the FIFA Women’s World Cup next month.

“We improved a lot but there’s no doubt that expectations and goals are higher and we know how hard it is to keep climbing so we’re working hard trying to reset our goals to keep striving for more success,” said Stajcic.

“It’s just continued growth for us. We’re heading down the right track but definitely we’re not getting complacent on thinking this is enough. We want more.”

Hopefully Meryll Serrano Abrahamsen who is usually a starter for Arna-Bjørnar Fotball in the Norwegian top flight would have recovered from her injury by then so she can make her debut in October along with the other new players at the September training camp who are still awaiting their passports one of which is a pro and starter at Fortuna Hjørring in the Danish top flight.

The Filipinas goal is to get positive results in the Costa Rica camp so they can raise their rankings to get to Pot 3 before the draw for the WWC at the end of October where they will find out which teams they will be grouped with.

Even though she hasn't signed yet for a higher division club, Sara Eggesvik has started training with her old club 1st Div club KIL/Hemne(while continuing to play games for her 3rd division club) to help keep her sharp for international competition. It is nice of her former club to do that although maybe they are assessing her performance during training as well for a potential signing.

Did you know that when she was with Charlton United in England(before starting med school) that she played against teams like Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea in Cup competition? This was her answer to a question to an interview back in 2020.

Q: Any memorable matches in England?
SE: Playing against Arsenal, they are really good. They are like a top team in Europe. Vivianne Miedema is so fast and so good. It was fun but they are a good team. We also played Manchester United, and also Chelsea.

Yes, I assume she met some of these clubs during cup competitions, but never heard her speak about them in interviews.

The fact that Eggesvik now is training with KIL/Hemne shows there is ambition to play at a higher level. I don't think KIL/Hemne is her preferred choice either going into a World Cup season, so therefore no official transfer yet. I think she wants to wait and see if there is an offer from a Toppserien club before making a decision. November/December are the two busy transfer months in Norway. :coffee:

Eggesvik's perfectly weighted assist to Sarina Bolden against #21 ranked New Zealand(that consisted entirely of pros playing for top tier leagues in Europe and the US) for the Philippine's lone goal in their recent friendly should have garnered some interest from some higher division clubs.

She has quietly cemented the starting attacking midfielder position on the PWNT because of her proficiency in providing assists to her teammates although she might get competition when Meryll Abrahamsen who usually plays the position as a starter on her Toppserien club recovers from her injury.

Meryll is still recovering from her muscle tear from last March and so far has not played a game yet this season for her club. She did not play in the NZ friendly either. Sara did and provided the primary assist on the Philippine's lone goal.

I wish you would visit the forum more often. You have helped recruit a lot of our players for the PWNT and you should really be commended for a lot of your hard work on behalf of our national team.

This is your thread and we would love to hear more news from and about you Mia.

It looks like they only called up the players with available passports as well as those fit to play and not part of current NCAA rosters.

As a result many of the players they looked at last month who played in the friendly against a local club but did not play against New Zealand because their passport were still being processed were not added including newly recruited Euro top flight pros and promising high schooler and Notre Dame U commit Chayze Ying.

Current US NCAA players were also excluded because of their ongoing college schedules including nationally ranked Georgetown U starting centerback Maya Alcantara and Cornell U midfielder/right back Reinna Gabriel.

While training with her former 1st Div club KIL/Hemne, Sara Eggesvik has continued playing for her 3rd Division club Malvik last night helping them win 3-2 over Verdal. She is then scheduled to travel to Costa Rica to join the PWNT for their international friendly there.

Merryl Abrahamsen's club Arna Bjornar also has a very important match this Sunday which will determine if they stay in Norway’s top division so maybe they needed her for that assuming she has recovered from her long term injury.

    https://pff.org.ph/2022/10/02/filipinas-start-costa-rica-camp/

I was waiting for the player to announce it, but since the PFF mentioned it in their website, I may as well reveal that the Fortuna Hjørring left back that I mentioned earlier who was present in last month's training camp for New Zealand is Fil Aussie Angela Beard who has had 3 caps for the Matildas in the past year and was invited as recently as June of this year to join them but declined due to personal reasons.

She is a consistent starter for her top tier club in Denmark and was recently named
as one of the 11 players of the week in the Gjensidice Kvendeliga in the Danish top flight as she continues to build her reputation as one of the better left backs in the Danish league.

She was again invited to participate in the Costa Rica training camp despite her Philippine documents still being processed as mentioned in the PFF advisory. As a result she probably still won't be able officially to play in the Costa Rica friendlies although she did participate in a game against a WPSL club in the US last month.

Katrina Guillou will eventually be on her way to camp but in the meantime she scored a goal for her top tier club in Sweden today.

Sara said she plans to go to class after the interview to study dissection of the ear.

As one of the most discussed Filipina players on this thread, I guess she is as popular on this forum as she is on social media in the Philippines which is interesting since she only joined her first PWNT training camp and her first cap last June.

Personally speaking it's simply a joy following her quick rise. She's a charming independent young woman who happens to be a good football player but figured for herself that studying is also enjoyable and in her circumstances more important than sports. Then she suddenly gets the chance to make an impact essentially on world stage for a team that's linked to her mother's far away family, takes that and runs with it and apparently enjoys that very much as well. All that while still being charming and down to earth. What's not to like about all that? :inlove:

She is indeed quite charming on TV while at the same time being down to earth and is getting a lot of offers for a date on social media from men in the Philippines. I think with her increasing popularity there we will soon see her displayed on marketing and advertising campaigns in the Philippines if the Filipinas continue to succeed internationally. She has already garnered a lot of interviews on local TV than most players on the PWNT after winning the AFF Championship.

She apparently visited the Philippines often(almost yearly) and is familiar with the culture and cuisine(which apparently her Norwegian teammates enjoy as well when she brings some to work) and speaks a little bit of the native language and dialects which contributed to her popularity there.

Right now the most productive starter for the Filipinas in Europe has been Katrina Guillou who plays for Swedish top tier club Pitea IF who has been scoring a lot of goals for them recently helping them keep their 8 game unbeaten streak going.

Eggesvik names her the fastest player on the PWNT.

Yesterday she scored another goal against Hammarby a team that included 3 Australian(Kellond-Knight, Cooney-Cross, Nevin) and 2 Swedish national team(Andersson and Janogy) players for Pitea's only goal in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.
