I know I know Figo has not exactly stepped up to the plate and is not as he was 1 year or 2 ago but to be honest with you I don't blame him one bit. The federation is a joke and Madail is a bigger joke. He is the worse thing to happen to futebol in Portugal. I think all the big players like Figo, Costa, Couto, Simao, and others should step up and say you guys better fix whats wrong or else. I know those guys didn't exactly pull their end of the bargain at WC but if we had some good coaching things could of been a lot different. It's been about 4 months and still no coach? Things need to be fixed and fixed soon. (link is in portuguese I'll try to find an english version) http://www.maisfutebol.iol.pt/futb/...197&mf_club=0&num_jog=0&p_sondagem=0&p_voto=0
I agree with you completely, dtoste. It's pathetic how indifferent the federation is to the status of the seleccao, and it really shows how bad the corruption is in Portugal. Madail does a horrible job at the head of the federation, yet he gets reelected with no one running against him? It's a joke, and there's nothing we can do about it. It's sad when a team has the potential to be a powerhouse but is ruined by politics. The players need to organize themselves - hell, everyone with a connection to the federation should get together and find a solution to this mess. Kick Madail to the curb. He should've been gone with last week's trash.
It's like a ship without a rudder. It's scary to think what Portugal could accomplish if it had strong leadership at the top of the organization and throughout the coaching ranks.
Luis Figo is at loggerheads with the Portuguese football federation about the strategy Portugal should adopt ahead of the European Championships the country will host in 2004. "There is too much indecision and not enough planning here", Figo said about Portugal's current situation. While Ago Oliveira's future is openly debated this week, Figo regrets a "breakdown in communication" about "measures to be adopted" when a new coach will replace the temporary manager, who should go back with the U21 team indefinitely. Figo also explained he was concerned that Portugal's lack of vision could tarnish his "good name" and could therefore decide to quit international football altogether.
