Simao has been impressing me during the benfica games...Doesnt have Figo scoring and dribbling ability. But Simao small passing ability is definitly impressive.

Isnt it better for Figo to actually play than to sit on the bench at Madrid? Really now he will get all the practice he needs before the WC. If he was at Madrid he would of been a Offensive sub maybe not even playing in some games.Owen against Azerbaijan was not finishing easy chances because he did not get to start much at Madrid. Figo needs to start and not sit on the bench. At Inter he will be playing in the CL and will have to play at a very high level this will help Figo before the WC.

Inter wins at Ukraine and they very close to the Champions League

    Woah nelly, slow down.
This is the world here, not europe. i mean, i love portugal as much as the next guy, but theres alot of good teams out there.

As for figo, i still think he has a couple of years left in him, but hes getting old, we have to "pass the torch" to the younger players

Re: Figo with Milan...But, will he now be OVERWORKED before the WC06?

portugal has a lot of holes right now, it is hard to put them top 5. besides the old ricardo and pauleta situation, you have the central midfield in question with maniche and costinha a big question mark, the defensive backs is up in the air, and then u need another winger to come up because figo will only be able to do so much.

portugal has potential solutions to all of these problems but whether they work out by wc time next year we will see.

Great points, but WC like any other tournament is all about getting on a role. It can be done, but .....

Its true....We have alot of talent floating around but no one is sure for where to put them. Other then the sure shots of Jorge Andrade, C.Ronaldo, Figo, Deco, and Carvalho, everything else is kind of up in the air isnt it...I have confidence though!

Have you guys forgotten about Fernandes, Moutinho and Custodio?
Simao, Quaresma and Boa Morte are very good wingers as far as subs go.
On defense, we still have Ferreira and Meira is a good back up.
All we really need is a fresh striker. Postiga is a good player for the NT, but I'm not sure he's the answer for the future.

Re: Figo with Milan...But, will he now be OVERWORKED before the WC06?

Ricardo is not the kind of keeper you would like if you want to mount a serious WC challenge.

Figo is a shadow of his former self, he still has some game, but that 3rd winger will get time and thus needs to be effective, something Simao and Boa Morte have not shown themselves to be thus far on the NT, with Quaresma being the huge quesiton.

Benfica's hunt for a striker will probably involve Miguel, so he will probably find some soccer to play somewhere, so that should help some.

The striker position, as you suggested, is tough to predict what will happen, someone will emerge god willing.

As far as Custodio, Fernandes, and Moutinho, those are some of those potential solutions I mentioned. We will see how they pan out this year, hopefully all goes well, but you well know Scolari is very reluctant to play youth in major tournaments, though perhaps he has learned his lesson after that first loss to Greece in Euro.

Re: Figo with Milan...But, will he now be OVERWORKED before the WC06?

I think that Portugal is a serious contender for WC glory. For as much as i think Figo has had some good years (all behind him) i still think he is a must in the team if we want to win.

Now if i was the coach this would be the roster:

    Ricardo
    Quim

    P.Ferreira
    Alex
    R.Carvalho
    Jorge Andrade
    R.Costa
    R.Rocha
    Nuno Valente
    Bosingwa
    Figo
    Simao
    C.Ronaldo
    Boa Morte
    Petit
    Costinha
    Maniche
    Tiago
    Pauleta
    H.Postiga
    H.Almeida
    M.Fernandes
    Moutinho
    joao Tomas

Re: Figo with Milan...But, will he now be OVERWORKED before the WC06?

sorry, but bolton have too many strikers higher in the pecking order, it will be very difficult for vaz te to be able to rack up that kind of experience by wc time.
