Are they really playing 4D chess though? I'd rather bomb out chasing an Olympic medal than be number 2 in a ranking, just saying.

BTW I understand your post was sarcasm ;)

It's Oceania, you know :whistling:: that vast continent made of little archipelagos... and of exactly nothing else! :sneaky:

I think once the WWC qualification are on their way, more nations will be added.
They start on Wednesday for UEFA.

France will leave the top 10 at the next ranking for the first time since they were created back in 2003.
Crazy to think we were second back in June. That's a full collapse.

Wow! Remind me of what results led to that: I didn't remember France had had a so poor stint, recently.

How does North Korea maintain a 9th place ranking, I thought their players disappeared after they dominate the youth-level.

Nope, they're still a fairly strong force in Asia even at the senior level. They've gone toe to toe with Japan several times over the last few years. They also don't play many games in general so their rating doesn't change much, and since that rating is in a relatively large gap between other countries, their ranking doesn't change much either.

Even though the US plays in a relatively weak confederation, 16 of the 23 games in 2024 were against top 21 nations--though only 7 were outside US and 5 of those 7 were at "neutral" sites (Olympics).

New Zealand will be in every World Cup and every Olympics until the end of time  regardless of their quality. No other team has that kind of luxury. They should follow Australia to the Asia confederation. It would show their true quality but would end up improving their team in the end.

I definitely feel bad for NZL.

As much as people liked to point out "oh they've never won a match at the WC!" (before 2023), their record at WC honestly wasn't *that* bad, all things considered, and looks even better when you add in OG. Since 2011, it's a *lot* of one-goal losses and draws against stronger teams. And it kept them between 16th and 20th in the world from 3/2013 to 3/2019.

But as WoSo has grown significantly worldwide over the last five years, they've suddenly slipped, including losses at the WC to weaker teams, and as such seem to always be stuck at the cusp of what a WC slot would be (e.g. 31st in a world with a 32-team WC). They definitely need better regular competition.

So I'm not mad at them for having easy qualification, since they usually deserve to be in the top tournaments anyway, if only at the cusp. I'm more sad that it seems to be holding them back from experiencing the growth the rest of the world is seeing.

We interviewed their interim coach at the Olympics after the France v New-Zealand game and he said they were looking at building the grassroots and infrastructure to become more competitive.
But obviously they are an isolated island, so all the players have to leave for foreign leagues to improve themselves.

Gibraltar has entered the rankings, which now ups the amount of associations in the rankings to 195.

Why does Gibraltar lose 116,97 points with their two defeats against Andorra while Andorra only win 7,83 points with the same matches?
