That's not something that should just propel Norway to no.11. Considering they haven't done an actual tournament since 2000. Much more deserving nations around the joint for the no.11 rank.

FFA's targets in their 'strategic plan for 2011-2015' include :

    - The Socceroos contesting for a Top 10 spot on the FIFA Rankings by 2015 and averaging a Top 20 spot across the period. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/buckley-opinion-display/A-strategy-for-our-future/43129

Sure !!! Just having a target doesn't mean it can be achieved.

Now we're dropping points left right and centre in WC qualifiers, I think we'll fall to around a ranking in the low 40's by the end of the year - especially with a 'friendly' tournament in December - EAFF Qualifiers - against lowly rated teams like Guam and Hong Kong. We lose more points for winning than if we didn't play them at all.

and leading up towards the Asian Cup in 2015, we don't have any qualifiers, so we'll just have more and more friendlies which don't boost your ranking in general.

But does a ranking of 40-45 in the world broadly fit where we the Socceroos are right now ? Probably Yes.

FIFA projects Australia going from 778 ranking points to 702 (down 9.8%).

Don't think we deserve to be in the top 40 at the moment.

Dropping 9 places to 34th. Down to 3rd in Asia, behind Korea Republic.

FIFA Ranking: October 2012 preview (II).

I dont think we deserve to be in the top 50. Sad days for the Socceroos. But looking good for Syd FC. Having said that the A league is really the Z league.

Coach is arrogant and its clearly about him gaining qualification for the WC so he can get his fat bonus.

Our main problem is there is no future. We obviously cant expect to have Harry, Tim and Brett all come through at the same time again, but we do need to have some youth player spotted from a serious club and getting some game time.

And why the hell isnt Olger giving Richard Porta a start. We haven't had a striker since the V bomber.

Anyway I could go on for ages, but it would just give me a coronary.

to be fair its partly because we're not playing any competitive Asian Cup qualifiers (as we dont have to) , and playing lots of 'Friendlies' - we go backwards everytime we win one against weak opposition like Hong Kong, Guam and Taiwan.
and go back further every time we draw or lose a friendly too.
In fact, we would have dropped two places even if we'd beaten Brazil !!!!
so we can look forward to slowly dropping a lot further over the next year, especially relative to other AFC members

Losing to France 6-0 is not going to help the rankings either . . . Good luck getting Guus to coach you again.

We don't beat or draw good teams consistently thats our prob and the way Ange has us playing we don't seem to be able to defend well enough to keep a clean sheet

We were well and truly in a golden era of Australian soccer between 2005-2010...looks like it's back to basics now.
