Thankfully the rankings aren't based on how you play.

Well they will be for March !
Down 6 places after our mess in Canberra !

to paraphrase RickChelsea: Our useless A-Leaguers have confirmed a rubbish top 40 ranking.

If you beat Uzbekistan, then that might soften the blow a bit. But if you don't, then you're right, you'll be dropping atleast six spots in the rankings.

Uzbekistan game only relevant for the April rankings, if we lose that, we'll be falling further!

You're right, my mistake. For some reason i keep thinking it's still February and that the Uzbek game was to be played in on March 1st :D

So yeah, Australia will drop six places and will be the 33rd in the rankings as of this coming Thursday.

It's nice to move up in a month after not having a game:D

I'd say japan might go past us next month after some good results against Belgium, Chile and Uzbeks.

i asked edgar and he said even if japan beats us we will still be infront of them

interestingly..if we had of beaten qatar and if we were to of gone on to of beaten bahrain and japan we would of been ranked like 17th or something

Edgar predicts 15th place next release of rankings in the upcoming July. Well done. In comparison the US is looking at 12th place after their win against Spain and most likely a lost game against Brazil (but they could draw up a different game in the Confederation Cup final.)

It will be 16th, as Edgar's calculations was based on the USA losing to Spain.

    OMG :D 16th ! :D

This is how useless they are. We made such a big jump because our performances at the World Cup were discounted and we beat Bahrain and Japan and drew with Qatar in WCQ.

But to those non-footballing types in Australia- it is big news- and worthwhile having a smile about.

You have to admit its better than the Oceania days when we hovered around near 100. ;)

The rankings are a rough view of where a teams current form places them over a few years period.

I'm not sure why people are getting upset that we have jumped up considering we have only lost a couple of matches in the last 18 months in some pretty tricky away locations with no where near our full team. Anyway, they will be pleased to know that we will also fall back as we have no more WCQ to play.

It's the apologists here who have in the past said we need to show more respect to Asia, who are now saying we are only 16th because we have ONLY beaten Bahrain and Japan....................go figure hey. ???

This ranking is good for Aust and it's good for Asia as it drags other countries up too. Be happy with it, it's not that hard.

I'm with you on this one Loyalty.

Can only be good for the game, even if it doesn't accurately represent our standing in the game.

I think the recoginition is a nice change.

He hasn't said more than what we already know:

    1. Rankings don't mean much. They're like a dumb, but attractive woman. Great to look at, but nothing too great to read into.

    2. There are historically and sensibly better teams than us ranked lower, giving credence to point #1.

i always scoffed at some of the teams that didn't deserve to be ranked in the top 20. Now ours is one of them!
