FIFA Ranking is a joke. I don't give much damn about it.

 

That´s worthless,really,hope Australia and Japan will reach the Top 20 in the near future.Good luck.

 

The current rankings aren't too far off from where I would rank the Asian teams. I would say:

1) Australia (0 goals conceded in 6 qualifiers is just incredible)
2) Japan/S. Korea
(I would call these the "Big Three")

4) Saudi Arabia
5) Iran (I don't think there's much separating these two, but I give SA a slight edge because they have better strikers)

6) EyeRak (they've had bad results lately, but they're a quality side when they feel like playing, and have much better pedigree than people realize)
7) North Korea

8) Uzbekistan
9) Bahrain/Oman (these two teams are pretty close)

13) UAE
14) China

 

Apart from losing to a surprise defeat to Saudi Arabia, China looked impressive against Germany and Iran.
I would put China some where in the top 10. Because if a match is held between Uzbekistan vs China TODAY & TODAY, i would bet on China to win.

 

UAE are rubbish wallah.. China is better than them and I bet Kuwait, even teams like Jordan, Thailand, etc.

 

It needs to be remembered that Bahrain and Uzbeks are further back in the rankings than their form/results indicate because they have the 2 heavyweights of Asia in their group which has hurt their rankings.
Bahrain have been beaten by 1 goal twice to Japan and beaten them once in the past 7 months, along with being beaten by 1 goal to Aust. That's pretty good form, but only draws and wins get a team points.

Iraq down 17 spot to 94

Saudi Arabia down 5 to 61

Iran down 6 to 58

Korea R down 2 to 48

Japan down 9 to 40

Australia up 13 to 16

 

Thats because Iraq has just played 3 matches that have continental championship ranking and lost one and drew two, and Japan played three WCQ and won one, lost one and drew one. In Australia's case the last World Cup (1w, 1d 2l) gets discounted and replaced with 2 wins and a draw in WCQ. No matter how important the game and how hard the opponent, a loss still gets zero points under FIFA's ranking formula.

No, most probably because they can get a rise out of some people ..... for their own excesses wrt their national teams & their misguided previous use of the ratings.

 

Rankings affect World Cup seeding so they kinda do matter.

 

They won't affect the finals seeding of any AFC side.

No they don't & won't.

FIFA will engineer the seedings whichever way they think they should be ...... AFTER they know who's qualified & likely to qualify. FIFA WILL fudge a process shortly to back up their view of who WILL BE the seeded teams, including their rankings ....... if they should need to give a semblance of due process & fairness. All of which is the typical cynical bullshit on their behalf.

I'd only HALF-believe FIFA if (1) they published the full seeding process in advance of the WCQ cycle AND (2) openly stuck to the letter & spirit of such a process.

Then why did they use it for World Cup 06?

 

They used a different formula for 2006 than they did for 2002. They didn't announce they were changing the formula until just before the draw when all the teams had qualified. We will see if they stick to the same formula, but don't be too surprised if they change it if it leaves someone out they want seeded. None of the Asian teams will be seeded, of that you can be certain.

 

They used this methodology in order to support their view of what the seedings should be, then.

As Al said above, they changed the previous WC methodology AT THE LAST MOMENT. Why do you think they did that?
