I didn't mention anything about foreign born, did I and the only reason I mentioned foreign heritage is because someone else mentioned the aspect of our colonial past. It's hard to dislike somewhere because of it's colonial past when the people representing it are FROM those places, isn't it. I was talking mainly about the public profile of the 'golden generation', (which was one of 'big stars' with their wags and celebrity friends), compared to the fellas we have now who just seem more... well, 'normal', shall we say.
Dropping rashford is a huge mistake. Rashford could do what mbappe did today and scare the shit out of the Senegalese defenders
It feels quite unusual for an England manager to have the ability to choose between Several in form players.
I don't mind Rashford starting from the bench. However, that midfield set up requires forwards who can take the ball from the halfway line and score with little support. Not Foden's style.
Raheem Sterling is not available for selection for the #ThreeLions tonight as he is dealing with a family matter. pic.twitter.com/CR6cU8J0wE— England (@England) December 4, 2022 Oh Sterling is not on the bench tonight due to a family issue.
If we're going to go with such a defensive minded midfield 3, I don't see why Hendo is starting ahead of Philips. Philips is miles better on the ball and gives more protection.
Totally agree but southgate's subs are stubborn as f*ck. Rashford would be great if we're winning. But if we are playing shit and losing its usually desperation and then Rashford starts to get desperate hitting shots from impossible angles and giving up possession. A fully firing Rashford from the start is a different animal
Henderson is in there to make forward runs to create space for Saka and for a bit extra defensive cover. I'm for it since he did well against the USA and Wales.
A guy on the beeb said that... Stephen: It couldn't possibly be viewed as positive that we have the likes of Saka to start and Rashford to bring on later or vice versa, could it? Too many England fans complain whatever happens. How about just supporting the 11 starters?
Pretty confident going into the Senegal game. Not nervous and feel we'll get the job done and believe nobody is overlooking them. Been staying off here to avoid the constant negativity by the influx of newer posters. Whatever floats your boat, but England are in a good place.
We have a 70 percent win rate on BBC and a 17 percent win rate on itv. That's a bad omen. On top of that itv's coverage is horrendous
BREAKING: Raheem Sterling is out of England’s clash against Senegal tonight. He is dealing a family matter. It is now doubtful if he’ll play again in Qatar. 📲 Listen ☞ https://t.co/VJgUHnHODz pic.twitter.com/TqdYZsxu95— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) December 4, 2022 TalkSport have tweeted to say that it is doubtful Sterling will play again this tournament.
According to the Daily Mail he may have already flown home. Update The Times have the following ‘Asked directly if the plan was for the Chelsea forward to fly home, an FA spokesman said they had “nothing further at this stage”. ‘ They also mention that he might not be involved again but he could also fly back for any possible later stages.
Complete guess but I wonder if Sterling absence impacted Southgate's selection. Rashford starting would have meant no pace on the bench with Sterling unavailable. Rashford from the bench gives him pace for later in game.— Matt Law (@Matt_Law_DT) December 4, 2022
Why do we need pace from the bench. Go at them. Put them to the sword. Use more technical players to see out the game. The mindset that we might need pace later on Is defeatist. It's a negative mindset
... and some of the older ones tbf but, yeah. If you consider where we were a few years back the problems we've got now are tiny in comparison. It wasn't just the results that were bad then it was the WAY we performed in the games.
Southgate has spoken about the Sterling situation: “I had quite a bit of time with him this morning but I have had to pass that on to other people to help him with that.” [@NizaarKinsella]— That's Football!
