You can compare the teams here:

    http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/r...G&t4=USA&dRange=2&fm=12&fy=2008&tm=12&ty=2009

For some reason, the FIFA site doesnt save my team picks, so you will have to manually pick USA, England, Algeria and Slovenia. Once you do this..

You can see that England and USA stay pretty steady in their positions over the past year and Slovenia and Algeria have actually gone from 60-70th places up to around 30th ranking in just the past 6 months or so.

The draw could have been much worse for USA. Im happy, but I dont think it will be an easy trip for us into the next round.

Never mind who will qualify (both USA and England should)

What will the England v USA score be?

Stadium is close to Englands base camp so maybe that will help us - who knows.

not to get ahead of ourselves , but potential round of 16 opponents

    germany
    australia
    serbia
    ghana

very tough follow up opponents germany, ghana and serbia are all quality opponents

    Agreed
I think it will all be mentality. If the US can keep their focus regardless of the final score against the English they should go through. If they are able to get a result even if a draw It would be great boost to reach the next round. Mentality is going to be big for this team and its hope for advancing.

Yeah a lot of people wont pay attention to that, but shit. Winning the group probably wont make that much of a difference. You win, you might get Serbia, you come second, Germany. That's just a guess, all four of those group D teams are strong.

given that on any given day any team can beat any other team either of them can win, but england is a stronger team in almost every position - goalkeeping is england's achilles heal. america will need to clog up and frustrate england in front of goal.

enland's mental strength has been suspect in big tournaments as well, though capello seems to have changed that a bit.

but on the pitch in most positions england's first and second choice are simply better than america.

    G - tim howard | david james - USA
CD - demerit & onyewu | ferdinand & terry - UK even if onyewu and demerit are back in time
    LB - bocanegra | a. cole - UK
RB - cherundelo | johnson - UK (though johnson isn't world class)
    CM - bradley & clark | gerrard & lampard - UK
    LM - donovan | j. cole - USA (maybe)
    RM - dempsey | lennon - UK
    F - altidore & ?? (edu, rogers, ching, cooper, donovan, casey) | rooney & defoe - UK

Just curious, do they already have a time set for the eng/usa match? If so, what is it PST?

Not that I'm so obsessive I'd be making viewing plans months in advance :)
