If Messi failed deliver, then just take out his contribution in qualifier, imagine this team without his 10 goals & all his assists in qualifier and also take out his 5 goals contribution out of our 8 WC goals, we're not even contender let alone be a finalist.

Palacio missed against Holland after being setup one on one by Messi is the proof he will never score unless he gets 100 chances per game.

I think wheb u get so many chances to put on good performances and u fall short then ur time is up. Aguero-Higuain were there in 2010 then in 2011 and now in 2014. Yet they choked in every tourny but as fans we gave them the excuse of having Maradona as a manager in 2010. However, coming to a tourny unfit is no excuse for failing. They basically failed before the wc even started.

Do ppl even realize that Higuain was 10-15 kgs over weight? I call that pathetic mentality and preparation. Aguero rushes back 4 times during the season to secure the EPL while Messi clearly doesnt even give a crap about la liga and CL.

Rojo literallly put on a show at LB. When was the last time u heard Arg having a top 3 LB in a WC? Garay was special and although Zabaleta didnt have an outstanding tourny he had a solid one and showed up.

Time to pull the plug on Higuain-Aguero. This is Argentina and there is a long line of strikers waiting for a call-up

Btw Sabella should be accountable for building a system that relies heavily on 1 player. That era of football is gone

To be fair Aguero only played in one WC. He came in as a sub against S Korea in 2010 and assisted the last goal. He only played 3 minutes in 2010 quarterfinal. He scored 3 goals in 2011 Copa but somehow being replaced early against Uruguay. Batista knew that Tevez has to play.

Kun came into the tournament after 4 injury stints last season, that certainly didnt help him one bit.

Pipita was just terrible, he just looks chubby and slow and the only player that played without joy or excitement on his face. Not sure what's on his mind but that's the truth and everybody could see it.

For me the offense should be set up keeping Messi, DiMaria and Lavezzi, and bringing new players to the NT such as Iturbe, Icardi, Lamela, and Botta.

Palacio also missed not long before that. Messi the one who sent him through.

Messi missed by a few cm, means that luck was not on his side. The shot is 5 cm inside, and it hits the post and goes in. He hit it fine, and he got the angle right too. It just was not meant to be.

Higuain missed by a mile. Palacio made contact with his shin. Both those misses show a lack of either confidence or skill.

The same with Batigol shot against Holland in 1998, he hit the post in second half but nothing you can do about it.

Higuain chance was the easiest as he was in the center and the ball was given by opponent and still so early in the game. You cant ask for more.

Without Messi we don't get out of the group stage. Sabella becomes another Batista who screwed up in Argentina, another Maradona who barely made us qualify, another Basiles who didn't score any goals in group stage and topped qualifiers as best team in the world (when Brazil didn't qualify) who didn't play Aimar, Saviola, Crespo or Riquelme. Argentina continues the weak goaless attempts, we still have an old bozo in power who takes pills because he can barely piss on his own, and we have players who score for their club side, but choke for their country. We have a team that besides one world cup 2006, can't find goals in 3 other world cups.

We as fans like to proclaim how proud we are about Argentinian football, and all that cockiness about how we have a great history. But this team never wins anything.

I'm with SuperMario, if Humberto gets called up as coach, I'm taking a very-long extended break from the Albiceleste.

Until that old mother ********er leaves office, nothing is going to change.

I have no idea why he didn't take a touch before shooting. He had so much time!

One of Pipita trademark play is to rounding the goalkeeper. He has done that many times when playing RM and River and even in previous WC against Mexico. This goes to show you his confidence level is below zero.

He played all 7 matches and only have one good match, that was against Belgium when he scored the winner early and almost scored another after brilliant run pass Kompany. He also did alot of pressing in that game but sadly, that just one good day for him, nothing more. Still happy for that goal though, that strike sent us to semifinal for first time in 24 years.

I dont think Humberto rumors are true. Tata has been given a word by AFA and he refused tk coach Paraguay because of that so if Sabella stays which seems likely considering the fact that AFA r pushing him out then Tata is definitely getting the job.

Exactly. These players make tougher shots in their clubs but by pure bad luck those 3 shots did not go in. Horrible way to lose: knowing we could have taken it all but....

Not by bad luck, it was choking. Messi, Higuain and Palacio are different players for their clubs than for Argentina.

However, Messi has dragged the team for 4 consecutive matches. He also scored our first crucial penalty in semifinal, played part in our goal against Belgium. We wont even need penalty shootout if Palacio could finish Messi's lob against Holland in ET. Even Di Maria accidently wasted Messi's brilliant throughball and injured his own leg instead.

Now if you compare that to Aguero, Pipita and Palacio contribution in all matches they played, those players didnt even look quarter as good as their club form. Aguero especially looks like he wont be able to compete in Asian cup with the form he's showing at WC.

As for the final, yea they're all choking which typical for Argentina everytime they face Brazil or Germany at tournament in last many years.

I agree, Messi and DiMaria played well, Higuain was mediocre and Palacio and Aguero an outright disaster.

By the way, it was Maxi who lobbed the ball to Palacio in the semifinal, not Messi. Maxi would have been a better sub for Enzo Perez in the final rather than the awful Gago.

Choking? A strong statement that I can't agree. There were players that were awful that you folks mentioned. Instead of choking use pecho frio instead. Using choking is too yankee.

You wanna proof of our players choking under preasure? this is how Pipita would handle 1v1 situation,.......in friendly.

Both those finishes were SO much harder than the now infamous one he missed in the final.

The one he actually scored vs Belgium was 10x more difficult than the miss.

Also it's not like Higuain barely missed like Messi. His shot went very wide!
