MetLife Stadium is drawing fierce criticism from two top contenders: France and Brazil.

France midfielder Adrien Rabiot spoke out after France defeated Senegal 3-1.

"The pitch ... I don't even know if you can call it that. It felt more like an artificial surface," Rabiot said, according to Reuters. "Quite hard and quite rigid."

France coach Didier Deschamps called the pitch a "special surface" and added players need to get used to the pitch, adding that "there's probably concrete underneath" it.

Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior added a similar perspective after Brazil and Morocco ended with a 1-1 draw.

"In the second half, with the heat, ⁠the pitch dries out very quickly," he said. "The game becomes very sluggish and we can't get into our rhythm."​

Compared to what? Metlife stadium is a really good stadium, the problem is that the pitch has taken a beating. But what country in Europe has as many stadiums available for world games? In the US, the college system alone has much better stadiums than any country in Europe. Every country that hosts the WC has to build a bunch of facilities and stadiums, here in the US all they needed to do was turn on the lights.

Yeah, the grass on the pitch was not perfect conditions, but its summer time and they are playing multiple games.

Oh I am talking about the stadium itself, that location is stupid, the fact that you can't walk to it bc they decided to lock it between 2 highways is stupid, and the fact that they haven't figured out a proper way to get people to and from it in a reasonable and cost-effective way is stupid.

 

It would've taken Robert Moses to figure that stuff out . . . people talk about FIFA corruption, well, and then there is constructions negotiations and union labor in N Jersey. . . we all know who runs those interests

 

I've never been to Metlife because its in NJ but everyone I know who has been there says its not a very nice stadium. Apparently, you have to be in the 100- or 200-level to see anything. And its just ... blah compared to other new stadiums.

 

I grew up in South Jersey as an Eagles fan, and have traveled to the meadowlands for away game against the Giants many times. The area is a swamp that they threw cement on and made it into what it is now. The stadium is a fine stadium, can't say the same thing about Giants' fans.

Also, I went to Rutgers so, so yeah, I am very familiar with the area

 

The final will feature the best player in the world "Messi" vs. the best raising star in the world "Yamal". May the best win.

 

The air quality here is horrendous today due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. A lot of smoke. Hopefully it improves after projected rain Saturday night. If it's still like this on the day of the final it will be very unfortunate and will affect the match and also the experience of fans significantly.

Ironically he received that number because Brazil forgot to submit numbers at the 1958 World Cup and number 10 was randomly assigned to Pele.

It’s not quite true of course that the “best player “ on every team is always assigned number 10. But it is often associated with the most creative player on a team.
