So, how many 2026 WC Fan Fests will be truly no-charge for fans?

KC Fan Fest claims that it will be free to fans, but it won't guarantee entry to them:

Is FIFA Fan Festival™ free? How do I get my pass(es)?

Kansas City’s FIFA Fan Festival™ is free and open to the public. All attendees must register in advance to obtain a free general admission digital pass. The pass is required for access but does not guarantee entry to the Festival, as admission is subject to capacity. Reserve your pass now and sign up to receive updates on other activities, food and beverage options, and entertainment.

If you would like to guarantee your entry to FIFA Fan Festival™ on a specific day, you can purchase a Premium Garden Pass or Legacy Lounge Pass.

    https://www.kc2026.com/frequently-asked-questions/

    - Open during 18 days only. Not 39 as originally announced.
    - All fans must register in advance for a digital pass. You cannot enter by just visiting that event.
    - A three-tier pass system will be enforced:
    - Free pass: fans must stand in slow line to enter. Entry prohibited once fan fest *general capacity* is reached.
    - $55 daily premium pass: expedited entry lanes. Entry guaranteed regardless of *general capacity* limit.
    - $255 daily premium pass: expedited entry lanes. Entry guaranteed regardless of *general capacity* limit.

I mentioned the attraction of a fan fest on Copacabana Beach. I didn't mean to suggest that you need to be on a beach to watch soccer.

The SF Bay Area people say the events at 30 locations that they are organizing will be free. I think only one of those locations, downtown San Jose, will be active for every game.

My bad. It is $225 not $255 hahahaa
    https://www.kc2026.com/frequently-asked-questions/

It pays for one day's worth of: buffet meals, four alcoholic drinks max, within an air-conditioned VIP lounge. Most important: dedicated restrooms.

I guess that's how ballers roll in KC.

    What is the Legacy Lounge?

Indulge in the ultimate VIP experience to guarantee your entry, receive access to the best views, and enjoy a luxurious space to watch the matches!

Enjoy the celebration from the climate-controlled lounge or take in the main stage from a two-tiered deck offering prime, unobstructed sightlines of the main stage. This space features all-inclusive food options throughout the day, four (4) complimentary drink tickets per person*, access to dedicated restrooms, unique photo opportunities with iconic Kansas City sports memorabilia, surprise and delight moments, and access into the Premium Viewing Area – ensuring front-row views of the match broadcasts and live programming. The Legacy Lounge offers an unforgettable FIFA Fan Festival™ experience.

Legacy Lounge passes are currently priced at $225 and can be purchased here.

*Only passholders 21+ receive drink tickets.

This is completely normal for FIFA Fanfests. There are VIP areas where you pay money for guaranteed entry, some included food/drink, and a dedicated space.

The general public (free) is never guaranteed entry. I’ve been shut out many a time when a host country is playing and I didn’t show up far enough in advance.

@Paul Berry $225 without tax nor convenience fee. It is a daily pass, so it cannot be reused for another day.

I remember a 2024 CA Guatemalan linesman fainting in that region, so air-conditioning will be worth a ton for fleeced UEFA fans.

Did you have to register two months in advance to secure a free pass?

No, but mandatory registration for large events is something that became common during Covid and unfortunately stuck around (often billed as a “security” measure).

I would guess in practice a lot of people will just do the registration after scanning a QR code in line, especially on low demand days. It doesn’t say what the capacity will be and whether they’ll close registration if they hit a daily limit. That would be foolish because if the passes are free, people will casually book more days and people than they end up using.

Necessitating registration in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Papiere bitte! I expect that wouldn't apply in Texas or Florida. Although I doubt there would be anything free in those states.

Italy replacing Iran would be Epic in so many ways.

It would be very controversial of course but very entertaining to talk about and observe.

In addition to extended opening hours for the group stage, English and Welsh pubs will be allowed to stay open until 1 a.m. for England and Scotland knockout matches kicking off between 5 pm and 9 pm UK and 2 a.m. for kick-offs between 9 pm and 10 pm.

The Scottish government has not yet extended opening hours for Scotland games in the knockout stages for obvious reasons.

(The second part was a joke).

It is being reported by beIn sports that Saudi Arabia and Hervé Renard have mutually come to the decision to "part ways'.

That means less than two months before kickoff of the tournament the Saudis have no manager.
