I've said once, I'll say it again. South America is not hosting anytime soon. They don't even want to hose their own tournament due to cost. The best they will do is a split host with someone, probably the US where they host 1-2 groups and a few knockouts. I think the continental rotation is about to end. Iberia is next, followed by Saudi Arabia. Either it is USA again or they scrap the rotation and give it back to Europe. The only rumor I have heard is USA with New Zealand and Fiji.
Anyone have any thoughts on the pricing for the final? I have seen resell tickets have dipped very slightly (by a few hundred bucks). Is there any chance they dip lower than the current $8k-$10k that they are listed at?
The US World Cup is facing two crises: a financial mess – and ICE. Op-Ed by Congressional FIFA World Cup 2026 Caucus member @RepNellie: https://t.co/kGLG41SJMJ— Pablo Manríquez (@PabloReports) March 12, 2026
let me get this straighta team will not be playing in the FIFA World Cup because they are currently being bombed by the FIFA Peace Prize winner— JEFF (@jeffisrael25) March 12, 2026
To be fair it was run by a crazy Muslim dictator that approximately 80 percent of the people did not want in power and he threatened to destroy one of or best allies in the region.
I don't want to get into a political discussion but how would anyone know that? The conservative anti-reform candidate won 45% of the vote in the 2024 election.
Won't be the US - for a while...certainly not after this U.S. President Trump: Iran should skip World Cup 'for their safety' - ESPN
Interesting discussion about geopolitics before a FIFA World Cup. There's never been a FIFA World Cup without controversies and harsh discussions. The next one will have harsh discussions and controversies. Wait and see until the kickoff...
And if it does, those will be highlighted and written about a lot too. You keep making that same point as if people are being inconsistent and only highlighting issues with this WC because its the US hosting.
I had a productive meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday. I’m looking forward to bringing the magic of the 2026 World Cup to every New Yorker. pic.twitter.com/wU819Y4VmD— Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@NYCMayor) March 13, 2026
Well I know there was a general election which Ali Khamenei's supporter lost, though he still got 45% of the vote. Anecdotally the Islamist leadership was never particularly popular in Tehran, other formerly westernized urban hubs and among ethnic minorities (for good reason) but is very popular in the less developed rural areas.
Suddenly have the urge to comment on complex political matters? Any thoughts on Trump’s statement about the safety of the Iranian team in the US? Or is it the usual shrug from you?
Those are some big numbers - one million visitors. I'd AirBnb my house at a massive profit if not for the dogs and cats. Though I'm a bit skeptical hearing that number from a city that says a million people visit Times Square for the NYE party when the crowd looks offly similar to when a 60-70k seat stadium empties out but let's see.
Should a Federation be fully committed on participation before anyone has an opinion on the matter? I think that needs to be stressed and emphasized. It is a very volatile and mercurial situation.
Is this your approach to project management? As of now Iran has not formally withdrawn. All security precautions should proceed as planned. For all delegations. Unless you think security is not the responsibility of a host. Answer the question.
