Obviously a joke but I thought it was funny. https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/el...ne-world-cup-opening-ceremony-in-mexico-city/
I was looking at the 3rd place matchup table (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup#Ranking_of_third-placed_teams). It lists the specific match-ups involving the third-placed teams, depending which ones qualify for the knockouts. There are 495 possible combinations. Anyway, it turns out that actual destination for 3rd place teams is fairly limited. Here's a table that lists the number of combinations where each 3rd place finisher will face a specific group winner: (Each row totals to 330. That's because even though there are 495 total combinations, there are only 330 that result in a specific group having a 3rd place team that qualifies. So only 330 combinations where Group A team qualifies for the knockouts, 330 for Group B, etc). For example, the 3rd place team in group A will either play the winner of Group E (16 of 330 possibilities), or the winner of Group G (314/330). Those are the only two possibilities. Some groups are locked in - if the 3rd place team of group K qualifies, it plays the winner of Group L (and vice versa). B is almost locked in - there is only 1 chance in 330 that it won't play D. Other groups (like I) have a wide range of possibilities. If the US finishes 3rd, the most likely opponent would be E, then I, with K as a long shot.
Looks like the party is in Kansas.... Algeria will set base camp in Kansas, also One, two, three, viva l'Algérie! 🇩🇿We are honored that Les Fennecs will base camp in Lawrence during the FIFA World Cup 26™ 💚 #FIFAWorldCup #WeAre26 #WeAreKansasCity pic.twitter.com/PC8brJJa2K— FIFA World Cup 26 Kansas City (@FWC26KansasCity) February 19, 2026
DON'T GIVE THEM LIBERTY: NJ cancels World Cup Fan Fests at its State Park in Jersey City - Front Row Soccer
Okay, so as it stands, the whole NY-NJ area only has the small Rockefeller FanFest location, and that's only for the round of 16 to the final(?)
at least in NJ...they would like to have the smaller municipalities to decide and host their own events. The link mentions a fanfest in Queens: The NYNJ World Cup 26 Fan Zone Queens, produced by Live Nation, will take place at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center's Louis Armstrong Stadium from June 17 to June 28, 2026. Set against the backdrop of the world’s borough, the NYNJ World Cup 26 Fan Zone Queens will serve as a flagship fan destination for the NYNJ region, offering local families, diverse communities, and entrenched soccer fans an immersive celebration of the world’s game.
True, there is that one too. I'm hoping they add one like the planned one for Jersey City that doesn't have a stadium vibe, which just encourages people to sit down and eat.
Shut the fock up, twat. Already celebrating a win before the ball has been kicked. Dick Advocaat will use your shit comment as a motivator to kick the shit out of the USA, which is the goal of any team other than Curaçao in the world right now. Howard: 'If you love football, you will never send countries like Curaçao to a World Cup' Tim Howard played 121 international matches for the United States and was active at three World Cups. Now that the global final tournament is coming to his country, he has made a critical comment about its expansion. For example, a country like Curaçao should never play at the World Cup, the former goalkeeper believes.
What Howard said was a bit of a silly hot take but no need to get all triggered by it. And Curaçao is not going to kick anything out of the USA if they play them. Come on now.
How ironic that Iran announces their base camp decision in America just as the US is about to bomb them.
I wonder if a stadium has ever been announced as hosting and had games assigned to it, but not hosted. I wonder if FIFA ever secretly chooses a backup stadium in case one of the stadiums because unavailable. To get from the stadium in New Jersey to Queens, fans need to take two bridges and/or tunnels. For fans who don't know the area, and maybe do not know English, navigating could be hard.
If Canada finishes third (could defnitely happen in a group with Switzerland and maybe Italy), then their opponent would almost certainly be the winner of USA's group, in the US... The US is by no means a lock to win their group but just imagine, that would really be something.
but getting into Penn Station or Port Authority and then walking to the shuttle to Grand Central in order to take the 7 train...not so hard really.
For awhile and right up until he was awarded that FIFA bozo prize, I really thought Drumpf was going to remove the final from MetLife, so yes I am pretty sure there is always a plan B.
Just outside Providence, to be precise. Or about 45 minutes drive to Boston Stadium. I imagine they're among the teams doing the least amount of traveling during the group phase.

I attend WCs to watch international football, not get drunk. I can get drunk any night of the week. Qatar was fantastic in part because we didn't have to tolerate drunk Europeans being overly obnoxious. Europeans won't show up in the US in large numbers because it's too expensive for them; but rather than admit that, they will virtue signal about Trump. It's pathetic frankly. And BTW, Europe IS the hotbed for club football, not necessarily international football. In international football, most of the European teams are quite boring. Who wants to watch Belgium play Switzerland. Yawner.
I totally agree. The quality is not diminished except for a few teams. Europeans don't know shit about the rest of the world - they think the Uzbekistans and Congos of the world are pushovers, but they're not.
Correct. There is not marked drop off. I've watched Jordan thru the qualifiers, they will hold their own, as will Uzbekistan and all of the CAF teams. The truth is that when it comes to International football, the UEFA teams are the most boring on average. Of course many of the best are there as well, but the rest are just boring. Denmark, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, etc. are not exciting sides to watch.
Well, Switzerland was involved in one of the more exciting group games last WC in that 3-2 dramatic win over Serbia. That was followed by the 6-1 match with Portugal, also memorable. The Swiss were involved in some exciting matches in the 2018 WC too that you missed. Congo maybe not, but Uzbekistan is. Of course, Europeans know that because a couple of the "Stan" countries play in UEFA - and they indeed are pushovers.
Yes us Europeans are terrible! And dumb. And know nothing about the rest of the world. And can't stand high temperatures according to the Club World Cup. All of us I'd say 95 percent and upwards of comments on the internet I've ever read this tournament cycle trashing Uzbekistan and Congo at the world cup have been written by ignorant non-Europeans. I for one am annoyed to not see Uzbekistan in person this tournament as they've been on a really nice upwards trajectory the last few years and are exciting to watch on TV atleast.
