That's not how WC ticketing process works. It takes months. But ok, I guess your main point was that crime won't slow down sales, which I agree with.

This being 'Murica I just heard about 30 gun shots go off rapidly and didn't think anything of it. I just assumed someone is having target practice. I guess my neighbors could be lying in a pool of blood.

Do I understand correctly that FIFA aren't going to reveal the actual schedule (you know - A1 vs A3, Winner Group B vs Runner Up Group D, etc.) until after the draw? That would be a huge break from past practice and pretty shady even for FIFA.

Why is it shady? It's the norm for a lot of domestic cup competitions including the FA Cup.

it would be very shady. I assume they are going to announce the bracket sometimes prior to the draw. we still do not know if they are going to make two 24 teams tournaments or one 48 teams tournament
I was surprised how little they revealed in that crappy announcement show

Announcement event itself, Kim Kardashian as soccer mom, Gianni's clown wardrobe, all of it shows how ********ed up this is. It's a long way to go but, regarding history of the tournament, it really is shady that we still don't know what it (post group-stage) will actually look like.

But, hey, July 4th game will be played in Philly! Hell yeah!

Are you familiar with World Cup and FA Cup draws? They have virtually no similarities.

Yes but still don't see how it's any shadier than the current system.

I wouldn't have a problem with them not allocating specific matches to times and venues until after the draw (within reason). It would enable them to try to allocate some time friendly matches for the supporters that aren't able to travel (and there are a lot more supporters who can't travel that can). I don't see anything dodgy with that at all. I see it as trying to cater for as many fans as possible.

interesting stuff. I don't agree with it however. I think they will treat it like 2 24 team tournaments like he says as 495 possible combinations is stupid but they will stay take the best 8 3rd place teams and just do quick swaps. So if A, B, C, D, E, F are all in the best 3rds they will just move E and F to the other side of the bracket, travel be damned... shouldn't have finished 3rd. Likewise if it is the opposite, G and H will be moved to the other half and just placed with whatever 3rd gives them the most rest.

I don't think they will treat it like 2 x 24 team competitions because you would run the risk of a third placed team being eliminated on one side while having a superior record to a third placed team on the other which qualifies.

I don't know what you mean by "current system", because currently (in the 32-team format) the brackets are set before we know which groups the teams will be in.

So, yes, it would be shadier than how its done with the World Cup up until now.

Some people are yet complaining about the 2026 FIFA World Cup being held in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

"Why should USA be allowed to host the World Cup? A working class game ruined by their vulgar stadiums and crass commercialism in a country that doesn't even like football!"

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f.../Joe-Biden-2026-World-Cup-federal-budget.html

    PS: I respect people's opinions.

    They got this wrong too.

"The stadiums in Arlington, Atlanta and Houston have retractable roofs that are expected to be closed because of summer heat, and Inglewood and Vancouver have fixed roofs."

South Africa? I am pretty sure the World Cup belongs on a continent where probably all 55 countries and territories agree that football is #1. I mean, at least once in the WC's first 100 years.

Is it too late to subtract Houston (or Dallas) and Kansas City, and add Chicago and Denver?

    Ugh.

Yeah, if you didn’t feel the World Cup vibe in South Africa in 2010, then you weren’t paying attention to the black people. There was some great atmosphere there, especially when South Africa or the other African teams were playing.

Chicago does not want it and does not have a proper Stadium compared to the other stadiums the USA is using.

Denver was never going to get it due to altitude. I mean Mexico City also is at altitude but you cannot have a Mexican World Cup Group without Azteca.

Kansas City won the "we need a stadium in the middle of the country" competition over Denver and Nashville.

Kansas City has been one of the best soccer cities in the USA the last couple of decades. Sporting KC has been a good team with good supporters. They host many watch parties for World Cups and other tournaments that seem to get really good amounts of people for both US Men and Women's tournaments.

Also The Hunt family has been very influential and instrumental to the domestic sport. Especially MLS.
