Looking back at old posts elsewhere, it looks like the schedule for 2018 was published late 2015, and 2022 was published early in 2021? As we know, they have been getting progressively more last minute.com with every tournament, ticket sales etc. I’d expect the Finals Draw to be in December 25 like normal summer WCs?
for the world cup? when they finally sign all contracts and decide on the final host. any time between today and, from our point of view, distant future
Vancouver Stadium proposed improvements. https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/bc-renovations-2026-world-cup
yeah, Canada is not really equipped to co-host a WC, which may be why they got so few games. And because they have so few games, it just doesn't seem worth it to do a major investment. They should just pivot and let Edmonton host instead of Vancouver. Commonwealth stadium is basically ready to host WC games tomorrow. And Toronto should be replaced by Montreal. I know the Olympic stadium is ugly to look at but at least it has adequate seating capacity. Plus its a nicer city for tourists to visit. I know, I know... too late to make these changes. Just sayin'...
Alberta sort of sank Edmonton's bid by saying they'd only put up the money if they got at least 5 games.
The 2022 World Cup calendar was released in Jul/2020. 2 years and 4 months before opening. If FIFA follows this pattern, the 2026 World Cup calendar should be released by February/2024
their silence about schedule and final venue is annoying, but there is still more than enough time. it makes no big difference if announced tomorrow ormin six months last what I heard was they were having troubles completing contracts with a couple of host cities. obviously they are playing dallas and NY out to get the best possible deal for the final as well. whoever they select it is going to be a compromise.
Yeah, not sure what people are worried about. There was a similar panic in the Copa America thread. Is it even possible to book an airline or hotel more than 2 years in advance?
2026 World Cup host cities expect match schedule in January https://theathletic.com/5155699/2023/12/21/2026-world-cup-schedule/
MetLife Stadium officials plan to remove 1,740 seats to widen the field for World Cup matches as they hope to host the 2026 final but will retain a narrower surface for this year’s Copa América.
Yes. After 1994 FIFA made it a regulation that World Cup finals matches are all played on the same size field of 105 metres x 68 metres. If they don't comply they wont get any matches.
According to this article, Dallas has beaten NYC for the final. https://www.the-sun.com/sport/10122667/2026-world-cup-final-venue-stadium/ Very, very suprising; astonishing in fact.
if it is true, and I assume it is, and knowing FIFA this was absolutely expected, no surprise at all. bigger stadium (approx 8k more with temporary seating) and therefore more (very expensive) tickets and zero danger of VIPs getting wet. add more business suits and VIP boxes as well and it becomes no brainer! FIFA was delaying the announcement for other reasons, this one has fallen long time ago and they were using their leverage to negotiate even better deal for them.
Jerry Jones is mostly a horrible owner and his teams in the NFL never really do anything but he is a very good business man and knows how to negotiate and persuade people to do exactly what he wants. He is supposedly the main reason why the NFL went back to Los Angeles and the stadium exists in Southern California, convincing the majority of owners that it would be good for the League, future Super Bowls and other major events. He probably sweet talked FIFA and did a lot more to persuade than the Mara Family in New Jersey. And putting up 300 Million for renovations/ grass did not hurt his negotiations at all.
The Dallas bid included showing the game on screens at two other stadiums in the same complex live. Meaning an additional 80-100k fans watching from a few blocks away. Mixed in with a retractable roof and more fans the Death Star makes a lot of sense.
