The controversy isn't merely focused on Argentina's behaviour against Spain and the lack of adequate enforcement in the final. The criticism regarding Argentina's games, it's players, their behaviour and the lack of enforcement has been consistent across the whole tournament and – from what I have seen – widely supported by the majority of football fans, media, etc. The final merely confirmed that the criticism was correct and fair.

To add: a statement by the winner of the WC after a major triumph carries little to no value. Just as any statements by Argentina's FA or team members after suffering a major loss. Emotions run high, both positively (Gavi) and negatively (Argentina's FA and players). Then again, you posted that for a bit of forum engagement, and – because I decided to play along – you succeeded.
