    Both great selections.

    Bellingham's goal reminded me of what Maradona or R9 could do in their prime. However, it was the third polace Bellingham. His goal against Norway was awesome. It won't win the Goal of the Tournament. But it was the magnitude of the moment.

    This came out after I make that post. I think Mbappe's goal against Sweden was also great. And i noticed a number of great goals scored non-traditional sopccer countries.

    Who cares about suspensions when they're going to be vs random Copa America/World Cup qualifiers vs Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia?

    The world cup is over, even if they get 4 games each, it's going to be walk throughs especially with some tough teams not playing qualifiers for the next one.

    Tough to do that when in previous games he was playing 90 mins (or even 120) and still producing match deciding plays late in the game. I guess you'd have to argue that without Messi, Argentina wouldn't have been in the holes they were during all of their KO matches needing late game heroics.

    I'd argue Argentina are more used to playing with a playmaker that walks on the field, given that Riquelme was a hero for them.

    It's aged out of football, but the player that prances around and plays football on lawn chair used to be a bit more common.

    The difference is more pronounced with Ronaldo because he had wheels, a total stallion, and now he's just fast enough to play.

    "By himself" is really an interesting way of saying things.

    We all know none of these two players can't take over games and do things "by themselves" as they used to. Meaning, Portugal as team played in a more competitive way than Argentina did (and they really did). So congrats, Portugal had a better team performance vs Spain and Ronaldo, the difference maker, couldn't decided the match with better support. The flex you're doing isn't really a flex.

    The funny thing is that the light cardio Messi covered almost 2km more than Ronaldo in those matches and achieved a higher top speed sprint as well.

    On a final note ... a fairly young England for whatever reason, couldn't stop that light cardio Messi from sticking a dagger in their hearts. So there is that.

    That's true. Argentineans and us Brazilians are used to looking for and having those type of players. In Brazil many still argue that attacking players shouldn't waste energy defending much. Not only a 10 but wingers as well.

    Flexing distance covered for Messi in the year of our Lord 2026 is officially the saddest cope I’ve ever seen. You are literally bragging about his Apple watch fitness rings.

    We all know the man is statistically documented to spend nearly 50% of his WC matches just casually walking around the pitch like he's browsing a sunday farmer's market. So If he actually managed to log 2km more than Cristiano against Spain, it just means the Spanish midfield held 75% possession and made him play fetch like a golden retriever for two hours. :D

    And yes, 'by himself' is exactly the right phrase. A 41 yr old Cristiano actually fought through the toughest defense in the tournament to generate a 0.28 xG entirely on his own. Meanwhile, Argentina's entire squad dropped a collective 0.00 xG for most of the final because their so called 'difference maker' was completely pocketed the second the referee wasn't holding his hand.

    Yeah, Infantino’s scriptwriters gave him a cute little moment against our young squad. But it’s genuinely hilarious that the second the var lifeboats stopped arriving in the final your "ruthless competitor" turned into Casper the friendly Ghost. :rolleyes:

    You are wasting your time, if you feel you need to explain this. :D
    And you don't need to underestimate and overestimate these Argentina and Portugal teams to prove that. It is obvious - Ronaldo should place these legend matches already. Messi is still fairly impactful player for a 1 month tournament. Although it must be considered that one is almost 2 and a half years older so it is not a fair comparison.

    On one hand, I think they should be punished for violating the rules. On another, not playing stupid friendlies feels more like a benefit than a punishment. I think they should be FORCED to play these matches. Maybe wearing some form of loser badge? Now that would be fun.

    Di Maria going oppo with the counter conspiracy theories and personally I feel like as a species we have totally forgotten how to accept and process defeat. They should enforce the old school handshake rule before and after games.

    If anybody loses an even slightly competitive game now it's because of "them".

    Ohh, that would be nice lol. I saw videos of Argentinians burning Brazilian jerseys. That certainly would mess with their heads and egos.
