The appointment was odd. Tuchel has left every single team on a bad note. Either sacked or quit. Unbelievable that he got the job. He is a polar figure who I am sure is very hard to like. His squad selection was a preview into his methods. Selects about 5-6 injury prone/injured players and leaves out superior players because well he likes to be the centre of attention.
Would rather see MLS Messi win BDR than Yamal. Go Argentina. Unless Spain winning the World Cup will make Florentino sign Rodri. Then go Spain.
I understand the idea that he made a mistake to bunker, but I think in his mind he knew they couldn't hang with Argentina and he hoped to survive for another round.
"Lesson learned," you said. Yet here you are again. You called the World Cup thread "full blown ADS," said coming into the Madrid forum was "a mistake," and claimed you'd learned your lesson. Apparently your word isn't worth much, because you keep coming back anyway. At this point it's pretty clear you're not standing by your own words, you're just obsessed with a forum you pretend to despise. The only lesson you actually learned is that you can't stay away.
I feel like since the minute I was born England has had this super team that needed the right coach to succeed.
Or conversely, Argentina only started to look good when England only had 3 attacking players. Tuchel gave them the red carpet. But lets blame the players alright.
Chicken or egg discussion. England never had constructive ball dominant stints of quality possession. Just classic kick and run after it.
It's significantly more relevant than yours WHITE RM. This is an open space for everyone. This isn't a discussion, it's a warning. Trying to police this space again telling people whether they should or shouldn't be here will result in infractions and points. Pretty basic.
This game was on a whole other level. This guy is a CL winner you'd think he knows how to manage a lead. What he did was unbelievable. Its the shit Xabi used to do too. We also barely managed to survive. England had no outlet on the counter. Even the Egypt coach knew you needed one nevermind a decorated coach like Tuchel.
"England had Argentina EXACTLY where they should have wanted them." 😔@Tim_Vickery says Thomas Tuchel's substitutions were to blame for their defeat to Argentina 💔#BBCFootball #FIFAWorldCup #ENGARG pic.twitter.com/zsoESYfqKB— BBC 5 Live Sport (@5liveSport) July 15, 2026
Again, I'm not defending the choice, I'm just giving you the logic behind it. I just think he didn't believe in them to get anything more out of this game than the Gordon goal. Feel like Tuchel was done after the Norway game.
Neither did Spain but everyone are lauding them for their win. England negated Argentinas offensive threat and scored the goal they needed. What does the cosch do. Sub out most attacking players for defenders and having the rest of the attackers defend the top of the penalty box or defend crosses in the box.
I understand that, but also; Harry Kane when it matters:No G/A v Iceland (Euro 2016)Messes up tap in vs Croatia (World Cup 2018)Zero shots vs Italy (Euro 2020)Missed penalty v France (WC 2022)Zero shots vs Spain (Euro 2024)Zero shots vs Argentina (WC 2026(— Africa Killed Me. (@thatsamybad) July 15, 2026 Hamann had the hot take as hot as a thousand suns when he said Harry Kane wasn't a winning player. I expect him to roll it out again pretty soon.
Since I remember watching football, whenever England faced a technically astute team, they couldn't make it. They always had solid forwards and defenders, but they always lack quality in midfield and end up chasing shadows.
That I agree with. Tuchel didnt believe the team could see the game out playing their own football. Which is why you send him packing the minute the final whistle is blown against France. Funnily enough Carlo could probably have gotten them over the line. Instead he got to coach a team of Segunda level players.
Coincidentally I think Spain were very lucky to score out of that penalty because it really gave them an overwhelming advantage, also let's not pretend for a single second that this England team can process possession the way Spain does. Didn't do it vs much worse opponents.
Oh no, we're not going to do this. Carlo had his team coached for him when he allowed Neymar to walk into that team and the field in that state. Don't think he gets a better grade than Tuchel, even if it's for different reasons. He totally surrendered.
Played a crucial role in the goal that will obviously not show up on the scoreboard. Kane was fine. Though if I am an England coach I'd ask him to stop hanging round Anderson and Rice. Either that or you needed a CF to play up to when he comes down.
The only good thing about this horrible result is that the arrogance of "It is coming home" will be silenced for another 4 years.
They cant and honestly they didnt need to. Althought Anderson was fantastic on the ball. England's strength are their wingers. Not their technical CMs. You play to their strength. Let them run at Argentines fullbacks. Molina is a terrible RB, get Rashford to run at him. Montiel not much better, get someone there instead of leaving them to do as they please. Even an Elche would've taken advantage of the huge space England left for them. Nothing do with the difference in qualities at all. Spain got their goal and played the same way for the next 80 or so minutes despite having a player who essentially played against them. Argentina had nothing, England got their opening, you absolutely dont shut up shop with 30 freaking minutes to go. It's an eternity for a quality team to take advantage of. Did the same against us when he coached Bayern. England have some excellent players on the bench, not like the drop off between the starters and bench players is huge. Kane was a non factor when all the subs were made, get Watkins on to at least make the defenders work hard. I still cant believe what I saw.
Tuchel's squad selection was full of controversy. By selecting Neymar Pedro could not come. That is his only blemish. But he is managing a team that lacks qualities all over the pitch. Carlo would love to coach a team with England's qualities. Also Carlo knows how to manage a lead and that is NOT by throwing in the towel with 30 mins to go.
Tuchel's team beat Norway, the team Carlo's team lost to. Just being fair here, this "could've would've should've" is irrelevant to me.
I think another flaw is this "let them run, let them run" like they didn't show in the past two games that they run out of gas late in games.
