but no matter how much we want to change the narrative, the biggest controversy and screw job today was that cable situation for England and it isn’t even close

 

Let's leave the draw for what it is then. I don't care about the draw. But, as I have been reading on this here, I merely see you performing the easy "everyone is a crazy conspiracy theorist" act. An act the other posters can hardly argue against, because you're defending the easiest possible viewpoint knowing that they are unable to prove something that may or may not have happened behind closed doors.

However, if you are watching the Argentina games unfold and still don't see even a little, tiny bit of favourism, then you are just being a contrarian. Everyone has eyes and definitely not everyone is using those eyes to merely vent their bias against Argentina or Messi. But it's been a bit overdone this time, quite overwhelming. And I'm not even going to argue certain specific VAR moments (e.g. goal Egypt). My biggest issues are (i) the tiny (but clear lack of) decisions that accumulate over the course of the game, particularly considering Argentina's highly aggressive and fault-heavy style, and (ii) the inconsistency in using VAR.

Having said that, England - Argentina will be an interesting match.

They should be tired as not only are they having to chase games and play extra time, but also the dramatic ways in which they are winning has to also take a toll

Nah they looked better in 2022. This team is getting by a hair against pretty average teams. The defense and midfield seem way more suspect now

and France now has a maestro to create in Olise. I think they shred the Argentinians to pieces if England somehow don’t get the job done

 

They looked better, sure. But they were still fairly average for the majority of the tournament. This time around they have no business being anywhere close to the SF, but here we are. Anyway, it is what it is.

 

But my point is that the vast majority of those VAR interventions are unnecessary and that they re-ref the game for 50-50 situations which in real time often nobody saw as important. It's become like a sport for those in VAR rooms to check any goal scored and find some inconsequential shirt pull or "foul". It has also led to some really bizarre situations. This technology cannot be put to good use by anyone.

 

Other than the refereeing (just don’t to keep pounding that topic), Argentina have relied heavily on their experience, grit, and gamesmanship to get through rivals that were considered B tier or lower. Mentality and toughness is only gonna get you so far. We learned that in Madrid, eventually, we had to play well as the come back heroics would eventually run out

 

This is true. Attackers get scapegoated by fans, but majority defenders haven't been good enough to get called up to NT sides.

Totally different from the days when RM CBs would be up there too. Wenger talked about RM going from 10-11 world class players to having 3-4 right now.
