Due to time difference, I did not watch the Argentina match. Was there any controversial calls? It was all over IG.
Too many to mention here. Egyptian coach had a crash-out post match too. He sums it up well, have a look A fifa vai ter que remover isso 350 milhoes de vezes pic.twitter.com/nJObjCTEKZ— Teago Oliveira (@teagoliveira) July 8, 2026
Lol FIFA rankings. The same rankings that had Belgium v USA as #8 v #16. A top notch match, i guess(?).
Even if you think FIFA rankings are a joke, there is a Grand Canyon sized chasm between "rankings aren't perfect" and "Argentina getting a literal red carpet VIP express lane to the WC Qfs" Nothing but a glorified preseason tour sponsored by Inter Miami.
It was a memorable comeback, game was entirely being played in Egypt's half, basically started kicking the ball back to Argentina just minutes after scoring their first goal. Watch the highlights. The comeback goals happen so close to each other you're basically missing only Egypt defending with ten men behind the ball.
"Clear foul not given" - the mother of all dives is on the video. Haha. It's very harsh especially given the minimal contact to take back Egypt's second goal but to score 3 at such a moment takes a lot of personality and ability. Great great game. And today we have no games
The Argentine team has committed 59 fouls in 5 games so far, an average of 11.8 fouls per match. Even with that number of infractions, the team received only: 3 yellow cards 0 Red How frequently the teams competing in the World Cup quarterfinals receive cards: England – One card every 7 fouls Morocco – One card every 9.8 fouls Belgium – One card every 10 fouls Switzerland – One card every 11.5 fouls France – One card every 12.2 fouls Norway – One card every 13.6 fouls Spain – One card every 17.5 fouls Argentina – One card every 22 fouls
I would like to see Spain win it considering my own folks are not in it anymore. It would help Spanish football a lot. England deserve one after so many years of heartbreak but the other side of that coin is that for four years the Premier League execs will pimp that trophy like nobody else has and completely suck all oxygen out of the rest of football commercially.

I mean, we watched Paraguay throwing punches and elbows. My favorite team when it comes to fouls have been Spain. Process against Portugal: When you lose the ball, mark the player right away before he sets up a counter, if you can't recover the ball, foul. This sets Portugal always multiple seconds back, they rush the process to initiate a counter out of the foul, make a mistake trying to win back the time missed. Brilliant.
This has been the Colombia experience over the entire tournament. It's a shame because even James played well. This team would've thrived with a good Falcao.
The reality is Colombia plays with no right winger And the striker is used more for work rate than anything if Lucho had a bad spell, which he did, we were in trouble. our secondary scoring option was set pieces and we are usually great at them but it didn’t work This World Cup
It’s been rough man Colombia over 3 world cups 14 games 9 wins 2 losses 3 ties eliminated twice in a row in pks add to that the Copa ran where we lost in the final in extra time we are missing something but Colombia doesn’t really lose in tournaments, but can’t get over the hump
Scaloni called Klose before Messi broke his record to speak to him directly. The two were team mates at Lazio. When Messi broke the record Scaloni arranged a call between the the two that Klose calls "very emotional", says he faced Messi on the field before but this was the first time they got to talk for an extended period of time which he really appreciated. Apparently Messi promised to send him a signed shirt from this world cup with a personal note on it. Pretty cool to hear all the background stuff that's going on.
Man looking at these scoring tables, I thought the single cup record was at reach, but a French man scored 13 in 1958. Doubt these guys can reach it
That one is just untouchable, there’s records around that era that look incredible, Kocsis prior to Just Fontaine, Eusebio just after, Gerd Muller after that. All between 9 to 13 goals. The new format from this year will water new records down slightly, but last time both Messi and Mbappe scored 8 each to equal Ronaldo’s 2002 record so there’s that.
There is a chance that Mess doesn’t ever get to enjoy his title as higher World Cup scorer ever. There are videos of Argentine influencers asking Kylian to let Messi just let him have it for one cycle
4 of Fontaine's goals in 58 were in the 3rd place match though. Not to completely take merit out, but a bit of an asterisk.
