I think it's pretty much impossible for any of us to know what the right play is in terms of defensive selections. There's equally valid reasons to doubt all the options imo. Fingers crossed Stones is sharp and can lean on all of that tournament experience. We'll need him badly.
Let's go! I'm nervous but let's try and get through. If we can't beat Norway we don't deserve to win this thing. They are a very strong team and it will be a tough match.
It’s a shame Saka has fitness issues as I just don’t have any faith in Madueke’s end product. Hopefully he at least tracks back today and doesn’t throw Konsa under the bus as I’m sure Norway will target that right side and Nusa is a good player. It’s bold going with Stones and Guehi against Haaland, given Stones’ lack of playing time the last 12 months, let’s see how it goes.
Nico O’Reilly to start at LB for #england tonight, instead of Dan Burn - Tuchel did consider Burn, in the battle with the physicality of 6’5” Sorloth on the right wing, but Burn in the bench. Rest of back 4 as per others: Konsa RB, Guehi and Stones at CB.— Rob Dorsett (@RobDorsettSky) July 11, 2026
Taylor had done well at both Watford and Villa but his brand of football was horrible. He was very much seen as someone who wouldn't rock the boat. The FA loved that type of bloke. Howard Kendall should have taken over from Bobby Robson.
I think it's probably the right centre-back pairing, and Stones looked sharp when he came on against Mexico. Less convinced about Konsa over Spence, assuming that Mokbel's got that right. Even defensively, I'd rather have Spence's pace and one-on-one ability against Nusa.
