Congratulations to everyone here on a magnificent victory! I’ve been devastated these past few days after Brazil's elimination, but now I’ll be rooting for England. After 26 years, the McLaren I love is great again, so now we are waiting for a victory in football. It's going to be very tough against Haaland—he is physically extremely strong. Gabriel managed to handle him for a while, but Haaland still got his way in the end. I think it’s worth shifting Konsa to the right and starting either Stones or Burn alongside Guéhi. I believe Stones knows Haaland perfectly, but Burn seems even more preferable to me. He is the only defender in the squad who won't be outmatched by Haaland in terms of physicality.

 

Brazil were a little bit underwhelming under Ancelotti. However what lost Brazil the game ultimately they didn't take their earlier chances, then you conceded too late in the game to rescue it.

We saw the same with Spain v Portugal yesterday. Portugal were asleep for the last ten minutes thinking the match was going to Extra Time and then by the time Spain score, it's too late

The England v Norway game will be something similar IMO

 

I think we had the tougher game between the two last 16 ties. Brazil are still full of quality players but there's no drive in their team. They were very static in midfield. Mexico did to us what Norway will do to us, fling crosses into the box. That said I'd prefer Brazil to Norway because Norway will be very direct

 

Is this the first time we've beaten a top 10 side in a world cup knockout game?

 

Mexico and Congo were a different challenge, not sure whether easier or harder.
But Norway will probably feel like a late knockout stage game from Euro2024. Very tight with both teams highly familiar with each other.

I'm talking about our win over Mexico compared to Norways win over Brazil. The whole build up and atmosphere altitude in game incidents compared to a neutral game against a side that doesn't produce top class players anymore

FIFA world rankings first world cup was 1994, so on them the only side we have knocked out in the knock out stages is Colombia who were 10th 2018. Technically Mexico are officially ranked 14th, though FIFA has introduced live unofficial rankings that had them in 8th at the time of the game.

If you go by Elo rankings then outside 66 the only knock out teams we have beaten who were in the top ten at the time of the game are Belgium 90, Denmark 02, Colombia 18, and now Mexico 26

The Normans were not French though, pretty sure they were Vikings that settled in Normandy. I’ve not googled fwiw, just my guess from history.

 

They kind of were French. They were the result of the mixing of Norse settlers/invaders with the pre-existing population in western France, just as the English were the upshot of Anglo-Saxon-Jutish and Norse admixture with the pre-existing Brittonic Celts.

 

Let's not count our chickens. Focus on Norway for now. What happens elsewhere is nice, but focus on our own games etc.

 

Rice-Odegaard will be an interesting battle. Bet they've had a lot of experience going against eachother in training.

 

I don't have a problem with odergaard. I've said it before he has little influence on games, he seems to flatter to deceive. My big worry is obviously haaland but also sorloth and nusa will be a threat. Though I expect Bobb to start. If we can take control of midfield and keep haaland quiet, we'll win

 

2018 England had Colombia, Sweden then Croatia. I remember everybody during that time saying England will never have another favorable draw like that.

Mexico, Norway, then potentially Argentina is easily harder than England's 2018 draw.
