Next Talksport will leak that Rice is in the squad and will report late due to the Champions League Final

  2. Football LIVE: Villa thrash Freiburg in Europa League final, Colwill strongly considered for England, Southampton appeal rejected | talkSPORT
Thomas Tuchel is strongly considering calling up Levi Colwill for England's World Cup squad, talkSPORT understands.

Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall is expected to be part of the squad.

talkSPORT also understands Dean Henderson will be understudy to Jordan Pickford, although the Crystal Palace goalkeeper will report for duty later than most of the rest of the squad with Palace playing in the Conference League final next mid-week.

Manchester City's James Trafford is set to complete the goalkeeper rostrum, with Brighton veteran Jason Steele going as an extra training 'keeper.

Anthony Gordon will also get the nod having not played for Newcastle since April 12.

At the top end of the pitch, talkSPORT reported earlier this month that Danny Welbeck was named in Tuchel's long 55-man list and there is a chance he is called up eight years after winning his last cap.

Well done for finding it. What a mess the Talksport website is.

If Hall is in then I wonder if Konsa and Quansah will be the second and third choice right backs with

That’s not a leak of any kind, we all know who the Keepers will be, it’s literally just stating something as a which we all literally know is going to happen.

But they aren’t saying those are certain to be included, surely we’ve all got an English GCSE and have done basic reading comprehension,

Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall is expected to be part of the squad.

I don't think Palmer can have any complaints if not called up but I do think there's a clear case to take him that you can't make for Foden.

Namely that Palmer has proven himself as a big game player previously for club and country. Foden meanwhile even when he was in form has done almost nothing memorable for England. Being able to come off the bench and be involved in goals on the last euros semi final and final (also scoring a penalty in the qf) is a feather in his cap Foden doesn't have.

The other thing I would say in Palmers favour is that almost everyone at Chelsea has had a bad season so you might argue that his form is more related to Chelsea's issues. Foden meanwhile has been largely out the picture for city while they've had a strong second half to the season.

I'd 100 percent take colwill and Hall but I just can't see tuchel taking hall and I don't think he'd be 100 percent convinced about colwill's fitness

  10. That's fair. But his big moments came when he was flying for Chelsea.

He's a class act - and I've been watching him all season desperate to see a flicker, and seen basically nothing.

As the Standard journalist says, it would be quite a turnaround if the renaissance came in a World Cup cameo and selecting him meant no in-form MGW.

I'd take palmer. He's streets ahead of foden in ability and match winning quality at international level. But knowing tuchel he'd rather take a robotic bowen who is just happy to be there rather than a big personality

Are we sure Tuchel has given up on Foden. He's been in half the squads Tuchel has picked.

Yeah it's be a gamble although also worth noting other players who have had very poor seasons then done well in world cups. Klose went from scoring 3 in 25 for Bayern in 2010 to scoring 4 in the world cup, with 3 in the knock outs.

There's something to be said for players who have proven they can do it on that stage. I wouldn't load the squad with them but I think if England were 1-0 down with 20 to go in the world cup final....I'd personally prefer to see Palmer coming on than Gibbs White.

  14. Nothing definitive - but just in terms of numbers, it seems a stretch that he'd be the one he'd back with such fierce competiton.

The quote after the March friendlies seemed pretty resigned, and he hasn't done much since to reverse the sentiment. Anyone who sees him up close in training is probably wowed, but just got the sense he was having to give up on him for now?

"Phil tried everything. I would say he was excellent in camp but, yeah, he struggles to show it on the pitch. Obviously he didn't have a lot of minutes for City recently, then he came to camp with the brightest smile and was so good in training. And I thought he will just surprise us and will play with the same verve and excitement but, yeah, he struggles to have the full impact"

He criticised him after that match which is not a good sign.

Rogers and Mainoo set to be in,

    ‘Turnaround
talkSPORT understands that Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is set to be included in the England squad.

The midfielder played a key role in getting the Red Devils back into the Champions League, and his performances have been rewarded.

That means Adam Wharton's spot on the plane is in doubt.

The Crystal Palace star could still go, but he is at risk of missing out.’

But for Mainoo, it completes a remarkable turnaround from being out in the cold under Ruben Amorim.

Realistically, how many minutes would MGW actually get if he went?

Bellingham likely starts as the 10 while Rogers would undoubtedly be the first off the bench were he needed. Whoever the third 10 in the squad is will not get much game time imo.

I think Eze will be more likely to get minutes off the left if he goes. Palmer should play off the right but god knows what Tuchel will do there.

If everyone's fit and healthy I'd start the first game with the following team:

    Pickford
    James, Guéhi, Konsa, Shaw
    Anderson, Rice
    Bellingham
    Saka, Kane, Gordon

    Some thoughts:
Wouldn't mind if Hall was the starting leftback as I'm a big fan but considering Shaw's flying at club level at the moment whilst Hall has spent some time on the bench (unfairly imo) so it goes marginally to Shaw because of his previous tournament experience but I'm pretty confident in either of them starting. I fear it won't matter anyway as I think the 11 you've posted will be what Tuchel will be going with. So unfortunately would be an inverted leftback which simply won't work for England imo.
I fear Anderson and Rice could be too similar as the midfield pairing and would like to see something like Anderson-Scott/Mainoo at some point when chasing a game but considering the famility of this pivot during qualifying (an aspect which isn't the be all end all but also shouldn't be underestimated in international football) I wouldn't change it (especially not for the first game).
Not too convinced by either Gordon or Rashford but Gordon gives the side some balance with his pressing I guess so he starts. Another problem with Gordon is he can be a danger of getting himself sent off though... Rashford has shown he can impact matches off the bench for Barça so he'd be my first change off the bench in tight games. As others have mentioned, I'd take a wildcard like Ngumoha for the left wing who can bring another dimension with his dribbling ability but don't expect Tuchel to select him.

Does anyone actually believe Ben Jacobs has picked up an inside scoop? Even the wording leaves wriggle room for if the claim turns out to be incorrect.

‘Understand’ Kobbie Mainoo is ‘expected’ to make Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

The players already know I'd expect so there are plenty of ways for it to leak.

They probably know some members of the some player's families that like to talk. Of course he could just be hedging his bets and making it up.
