Apparently it’s to help FIFA with things like passport numbers and stats and helps them get their software ready.
Henry Winter still banging the Trent drum. Let’s hope Ben White is ok and reports of suspected ligament damage prove premature. With Jurrien Timber still rebuilding fitness, Cristhian Mosquera may have to fill in at right-back for Arsenal. And England? If White’s season is sadly over then surely Thomas Tuchel has to see…— Henry Winter (@henrywinter) May 12, 2026
My view on the squad is that if it's 26 man then you pick your best three keepers, 20 players for your first and second choice outfield positions, then you have three places left for more utility/wildcard options, and TAA should probably be one of those. Grealish too had he been fit.
I am the same but two of the final three roles solely go to penalty takers. We aren’t going to be the most creative team so will likely end up in a shootout at some point.

Ben White’s injury is bad news for Arsenal and England.White was likely to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad and right-back has suddenly become a problem position. Is now the time for Trent Alexander-Arnold to make a dramatic return? Our writers give their verdict —… pic.twitter.com/PNre9tffE1— The Athletic | Football (@TheAthleticFC) May 13, 2026 One of the writers thinks Tuchel might play Hall or Lewis-Skelly at right back in an emergency. (I don’t think right back is the wrong side for Spence.
Based on Tuchel's comments and selection patterns I think he wants a RB/CB hybrid profile in the squad. If White was set to be in the squad, which we don't know is the case, then I think he'll likely be replaced with Quansah, or possibly Chalobah as an outside bet.
Morgan Gibbs-White could return to stake his claim for a place at the World Cup at Manchester United on Sunday. The #NFFC midfielder is in Thomas Tuchel's 55-man squad, but will hope to convince him he deserves a place on the plane. https://t.co/kkLFsSXq2D— Paul Taylor (@nottmtails) May 14, 2026 Going through Tuchel/England squad stuff for an @England_Pod episode ahead of next Friday's World Cup squad announcement.I think there's a chance it could be the most mind-blowing squad announcement the nation has ever experienced with real bafflement & headloss.Cannot wait. pic.twitter.com/vYEM6QZkbJ— Ali Maxwell (@AliMaxwell_) May 14, 2026 Not much clamour for Luke Shaw, is there?— The England Pod (@England_Pod) May 14, 2026

Mind-blowing is overselling it, though it does feel like more is up in the air around the squad than usual, although a lot of them are relatively 50/50 calls of people unlikely to contribute much at any rate. I'd say there's probably 18 players i'd say are almost certainly going bar late injury (Pickford, Trafford, Henderson, James, O'Reilly, Stones, Konsa, Guehi, Rice, Anderson, Henderson, Bellingham, Rogers, Gordon, Rashford, Eze, Saka, Kane) then 8 spots up for grabs. For fun, i'd guess Livramento, Spence, Maguire, Garner, Mainoo, Foden, Madueke, Watkins will round out the squad.
I’m going over old ground and do apologise in advance but every time I see Henderson’s name there it drives me nuts. I will get over it eventually but honestly just don’t think he’s good enough to be anywhere near this squad especially at the expense of better players than him.
The only possible thing that might go against him is he has been out injured since the international break and central midfield really isn't a position you want a 35 year old of questionable fitness. Southgate dropped him last Euro's in a similar fashion. But Tuchel really, really seems to love Henderson both on and off the pitch.
Yeah and I had concerns about his fitness in the heat at the age of 35 before the injury. Now he’s had an injuries and Tommy will take him anyway just seems utter madness but hopefully he doesn’t see a blade of grass on the actual pitch but for me still wasting a spot anyway.
I think those 18 are almost certain. The only possible quibbles are Stones and Eze, but you'd still expect to see them both on there. He'd obviously start Stones if 'fit', but when you take a step back , it still seems weird to take him in the circumstances. And can you just take the 4 CBs if Stones is one of them? And once you have to include 5 CBs and 5 CMs (well, 4 plus Hendo!) , the choices get trickier further forward, with another big name left out.
After the last Euros, it's crazy to take a single left footed left back. Especially an unconventional one like O'Reilly. Does Mainoo go over Wharton? I am not convinced. I think the fact Wharton has been picked for squads quite a few times suggest he is more favoured.
Think we had Trippier at left back for the last Euros and it was a disaster so kind of surprised you don’t want to take a left footed left back?
Unfortunately there is a fair chance Tuchel sees Burn as a suitable player to play at left back in an emergency.
I think these are the potential shocks for those who don’t pay much attention between tournaments. One or more of the following being omitted will be the story:TrentFodenPalmerMaguireMainooPotential inclusions that could really baffle ppl:Henderson QuansahSpence— Ali Maxwell (@AliMaxwell_) May 15, 2026
Trent and Maguire missing out would/should shock no one they been in barely an squads over the last few years.
