It's a classical case of a player being better at club level than at the national team, Salihamidzic was also like that back in the day. The point here is that Pjanic has entirely gotten away with being abysmal over the years.

Pjanić has not been abysmal for BiH. Has he underperformed? Yes. But he’s had great games and moments and to say he’s been an abysmal player is extreme hyperbole imo.

Perhaps we expect too much from Pjanić who doesn’t have much talent around him tbh, especially over the last 2-3 years.

Yes and no. Being able to make a simple pass(where he couldn't do it on at least 3 occasions that i remember in this game) has nothing to do with not having much talent around him. He absolutely sucked big time in this game and imo is one of the reasons we couldn't get any more chances(he ruined so many of our plays by not being able to do the simple stuff). Everything about him is fairly the same from before..Controls the ball well but always plays so passive and looks like he doesn't eat enough or some shit(weak with passes, weak when someone is trying to steal the ball away, etc)..

Name me a single game against a top opponent where Pjanic was the difference maker or where his contribution helped us achieve a positive result. I'll wait.

it is a team sport. he can't make a diference against lets say 7 players in 30 meter zone he needs other around him to move and be able to be used for 1-2s or through ball

That's a cheap excuse, he is supposed to be the kind of player that has an impact on the outcome of a game, that's literally his role. We're not talking about a left-back here, we're talking about a player that was hailed as the new big thing some 12 years ago and never lived up to those expectations. Pjanic doesn't need other players to make him look weak and bad, he is doing a fine job at that on his own as shown in yet another pathetic performance against a top team. So again I ask: Name me a single game against a top opponent where Pjanic was the difference maker and where his contribution helped us achieve a positive result. I can find you plenty of games where Dzeko, Misimovic and even less important players like Medunjanin, Visca, Lulic or Salihovic made a big difference. Overhyping weak players and giving them a free pass for years is part of the reason why we are where we are today, a huge part of the reason.

Pjanic never was great, Misimovic carried the NT in playmaking. End of Story

The reality is that the decline of this team from a top 15 side in Europe, top of their qualifying group, unbeaten away from home in World Cup 2014 qualifiers to later 3 playoff failures and now going through the longest winless streak in its history very much started after Misimovic retired. After that, we started having embarassing results the likes of which we hadn't had since the early 2000's and the boycott in 2006-2007. It's obviously not the only reason but it does explain a lot. There has never been a playmaker like Misimovic since 2014 and Pjanic utterly failed to take over the role or to even contribute properly to the team as we saw when it mattered against Ireland (2015) and Northern Ireland (2020) in the playoffs. That's besides all those other games where he was seen walking on the pitch, making poor decisions, not delivering proper passes, hitting the wall when taking free kicks etc. Also missing that penalty against Cyprus in the first qualifying game after the World Cup and now more recently against Finland (thank God for that lucky rebound otherwise we would be bottom of the group with 0 points right now..) is totally unforgiveable. I am still waiting for someone to name me a single game against a top opponent where Pjanic was the difference maker and where his contribution helped us achieve a positive result.

Seems Petev earned the players respect, haven’t seen comments like this from players before.

“Petev je najbolji selektor sa kojim sam radio do sada, a javnost ga je vrlo ružno dočekala i napravila nam dodatne probleme” rekao je Rade Krunić nakon utakmice.

“Šef je odlično pripremio utakmicu, šteta što nije bio tu sa nama jer bi sa njim imali dodatnu snagu” poručio je Edin Džeko.

This part worries me "a javnost ga je vrlo ružno dočekala i napravila nam dodatne probleme". Since when the way the public welcomes a new coach should have any sort of impact directly on the players?? What kind of "dodatne probleme" is Krunic talking about?

You said he’s abysmal, I said that was hyperbole. I agree he underperforms for his level but he’s still the best midfielder we’ve had since Misimović. If you consider that abysmal then we have ti agree to disagree.

If he is the best midfielder we've had since Misimovic, that tells you about the state of BIH football and it explains why we are where we are today.

Honestly I feel like Izet Hajrovic should replace Pjanic in the midfield. Yes I know he isn't a midfielder but the man played every game with passion and hearth. Ran like a Maniac with the Ball forward. Every time Pjanic got the ball against France he stopped the attack by passing back.
