Oh well, as I had to register to this website to give my opinion about WC qualifyers, I'll take advantage of it to show you that web page I've made :

    FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Room

It's a table summing up History of each nations performance in the World Cup. That table takes into account the victories, the finalists, the semi-finalists as 3rd and 4th, the quarter-finalists and the qualified teams in general. I hope you'll enjoy ! :)

Very, very impressive. I've actually been waitting for something like this to be done by Fifa, but this is just as good. hey portugal is the 15th best World Cup nation not bad for only 3 appearances.

    Yes, very nice visuals.

However, as a Canadian, I strongly insist that you have a trophy section for ALL those that have qualified in the past. :)

1986 is our shining moment in the sun, and I insist it be recognized!

I agree, very nice website. I really like the animated flags.

    Btw:

Is it true that Germany reached at least the quarterfinals in every WC since 1950 ???
    That`s awesome!

You could add a column for 2006 as many teams qualified already

But Canada is already on the list !

It's ranked 59th, together with Iraq as both qualifed for the 1986 World Cup. Indeed, when teams are equal in terms of apparition, I considered the newer was that apparition, the better it should be valued. That's why Canada is ahead of Australia, despite both teams having qualified only once (currently).

The only problem in the visual is that it's not easy to see for Canada that the "Q" is on the 86 column. I could add lines to differenciates columns but that looks really ugly... maybe another idea could be to separate countries who qualified several times and countries who qualified only once.

Re: FIFA World Cup? Trophy Room

All animated flags are available on IconBAZAAR, there are even US state flags and Canada's provincial flags.

Yeah indeed. That's rather impressive. I guess that grows the pressure on German players as they don't want to be remembered as the first one who couldn't reach the quarters since 1950 !!!

True. However, I don't want to take 2006 qualifications into account untill it's played. I want to know the actual results before doing so. However, I could still at them for information... without changing the ranking.

Yes, although in 1978 they didn't play in a QF. The format in 1978 was two group phases followed by semis and final. Germany did make it into the second group phase, which you could consider equivalent to a QF spot, but there were no QF games.
