ALBERTA SACKEY SELECTED TO FIFA WORLD ALL-STAR TEAM Eagles sophomore Alberta Sackey has been selected by FIFA, the world soccer governing body, to participate in a game featuring the FIFA Women's World Stars versus the Chinese Women's National Team, who placed second in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The World Stars team will consist of one player from every country (16) that has qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup in China. The game will be played in China on May 24th preceding the draw for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup. Sackey is a two-time NAIA All-America selection (2001 & 2002), CCAC Conference Player of the Year (2001), NAIA Region VII Player of the Year (2001), and the Eagles all-time goal scorer (69) and points leader (162). She has also excelled in the classroom maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average and was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America College Division Women’s Soccer Team. http://www.robertmorris.edu/athletics/womenssoccer/chicago/news/ Anyone else hear about this?
the women's world cup draw is being held on may 24th in china, and there will be an all-star team vs. the chinese national team on the same day (the same thing as they did for WWC99). i bet alberta sackey is ghana's representative for the all-star team, as each team will send one player...it'll be interesting to hear who else joins her!! elaine
Now this is interesting. I'm curious to see what players try to get out of this if they want to. Or their coaches try to keep them here. It's a full WUSA weekend. But it would be an honor to play in this.
depends i think...someone from a NON WWC team like a Kelly Smith its a big deal...Yanks and other internationals who are in the WC would probs pass and rather get ready for the WC IMHO.
