Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Yeah... We (Cal Berkeley) really missed Alex Morgan for our opening round NCAA tournament game down in Florida (we lost). We don't have the surplus of star players like some of the big power schools like UCLA, Tarheels. Sydnee Leroux isn't even the big striker at UCLA like Alex is for us.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] What a save by Naeher. Penn State sure could've used her last weekend.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Is Christine Nairn still a high schooler. Which school has she committed to next year?
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Penn State. She delayed enrollment this year, would've been a freshman.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] The game could have easily been 2-2, but great second half by the US. We have a bright future at Keeper! Also the second goal should have been called offsides for keeper obstruction.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Apparently she has played for both the US and Canada. I think you're allowed to do that as long as you're in the U's. Once you play for the Full National Team then you're locked in. You can't play for any other country, ever.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] She played for Canada in this tournament a few years back('04 I think). She looked great when she came on, her pace was causing the French all sorts of problems and she got into brilliant positions to collect the ball. Good second half from the team. It will be interesting to see if Leroux gets the start in the next game.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Naeher had a great second half after a pretty dodgy first half. She flat out missed the ball on two challenges in the first, then toyed with a forward clearing the ball and almost lost it. A french player also missed the net from 1 foot, or we would have been down. Great second half, though. Let's hope she got the cobwebs out. There was no obstruction on the keeper. Her own player knocked her down.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] I saw the first USA goal and I thought it was Goal of the Tournament already. And the 2nd NZ goal was almost as good. FIFA's highlights of China v Argentina shows two blatant penalties not given, where the Argentinan DF "saves" a shot at the near post with both arms ........then later a shove by the China DF was again a clear PK, so I guess neither team can complain. By the way there is another active u-20 thread under Womens International - would it not be more interesting to post everything there ?
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Watch the highlights on fifa.com, not only did the US player run into the French keeper, she was also in an offsides position in front of goal. Which should of been called offsides. She may not have played the ball, but she affected the play by being in an offsides position. Note back to the Beasley goal that got called back against Italy in WC 2006. Either way the US won and thats all that matters!
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Yes, REALLY - did you see the goal ? Absolutely top drawer. What's not to be amazed at such one-touch scoring ?? And I am really more a fan of Japan (because their u-17s did not get what they deserved, a place in the final)..... and, today: Canada 0 - Japan 2 The FIFA commentary is gushing about Japan's display, so maybe this team is the real thing.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Do you see Japan vs Canada's 2nd goal. So beautiful, which could easily beat the USA goal that you mentioned.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Yes it was indeed a great goal - what touches - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpOGFMUe6H0 also England's second goal looked good ....I am hoping to see the rest of Japan's games live - or indeed ANY of these games live - anyone in the USA know how to do that ?
this U-20 tournament has a certain novelty - how to take a throw-in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BftH59Pco0 ....Brazil-style ?
Not totally novel - Michele Weissenhofer of Notre Dame has a flip throw-in that, as the media guide says, "is a fan favorite." It's fun to see in person and the flip really generates some distance. Weissehofer is in the U-23 player pool.
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] 1) Check the schedule for the ESPN family of channels 2) ESPN360.com 3) Justin.tv 4) Check p2p links at rojadirecta.org or myp2p.edu Much easier than the U-17 WC
Re: 2008 U-20 WWC in Chile - Final Preparations [Possible R's] Thanks for this, and good news. Who do you like this time ? By the way, I was thinking of putting the link for the u-17 goal-of-tournament up - there is a choice among ten (I dont think they chose a winner).
not novel at all. not only the notre dame player mentioned by the previous poster but several others have made that throw often enough that it's not a surprise when one sees it anymore. in fact i'm wondering if the leah making that throw isn't an american girl who learned that throw here in the states. there's a thread about an american leah fortune who decided to play for brazil. people were debating if she was not good enough for the u.s. (which is what i thought) or if she was just not scouted properly enough because we look for size and fitness over skill. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=672044&highlight=leah don't know if it's her. i was just thinking.
