Cordova has a shot saved and then hits the bar off a header.

EDIT: As I type misses a curler from 18 yards out.

Venezuela has hit the bar three times.

This game has a USA vs Belgium feel.

This shows that the USMNT still has a LONG way to go in order to be elite because the midfield can't keep hold of the ball. They have some decent players, but lacking in the vital areas.

Cordova was offsides, but the ball took a USA deflection when he was back onside. Announcers never saw that on FS1 nor did the review people.

How does that not go in??? Still nil-nil. Either Venezuela get a goal in the 80-90 minutes or this goes to extra time. OR USA get a late winner.

I am getting annoyed by the Venezuelan play-acting.

Palmer-Brown pulls a Wondolowski at the death! Just like against Belgium. USA has a last second chance and should've scored with a free header and essentially an open goal.

    Onto extra time!

Congrats! Your team is the real thing. We haven't had a chance to generate offense.

The corner kick and free kick were both poorly defended. USA still has a chance to force pens.

Venezuela hold on to win 2-1 in extra time. Valient effort by the USA, but the better team won today. Could've been 4-0. First time a Venezuelan side has reached the semifinals of a World Cup in any age group.

Portugal v. Uruguay is up next, but I'm gonna get some sleep!

Reminds me of the full Chilean team. Just the highest level of sustained intensity and quickness I have seen in the midfield this tournament.

Venezuela looked like the better team for most of the match however the USA could have pulled out a shocking result near the end of 90.
Just was not to be. Venezuela's key players did what they had to do in the extra periods and made the difference. They keep on building confidence and grinding out victories.

Caught stretches of the USA-Venezuela match this morning and Venezuela was clearly the better side. Well deserved advancement.

Congrats to Uruguay for making it a South American Semi on one side of the bracket.
I expect an extremely physical battle in that one.

Ha ha... interesting that it's not just USA fans who see that parallel.. opponents dominate for most of the match, before a US player Wondolow-skied the ball wide in the dying seconds to take it to extra time... then of course the better side overall wins 2-1 after extra time....

Btw, a side not here.. now that France and Portugal are out, we are now guaranteed for the third consecutive tournament to have a brand new winner of the U-20 / World Youth Cup title, as non of the teams left have ever won. Only Mexico and Uruguay have made the final, the latter twice... so we will have a new champion in one weeks time!

Just hoping we don't get an all-UEFA all-CONMEBOL semi.

Someone predicted nicely how close-cut these games would be.

Congrats to Uruguay. I have to ask though. What's the deal with The R.Amaral? That has to be the most plump footballer I have ever seen.

Uruguay has a history of chubby good players.
My father always tells me a story about heavy set twins who used to play for Flamengo in the 50's.
    :p
