Nigeria's place in this month's U-20 Women's World Cup is in jeopardy as a result of president Goodluck Jonathan's crackdown on corruption in the the Nigerian Football Association. http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/wo...r-ban--fbintl_ap-wcup-nigeria-suspension.html
Can Nigeria lose their U-17 women's world cup team, and be replaced by the United States U-17 women's team (who failed to make it). If the U.S. gets in and wins it, then it would be one heck of a tainted championship, lol.
You would think that if Nigeria were prevented from participating, the fourth place African team, Tunisia, would replace them.
WOW, that would be the first of any women's world cups Tunisia would ever sniff. It would be quite a story. Even though they would take their shlacking in all 3 games and we'd be saying at the end "Buh-Bye Tunisia, we hardly knew ya".
Further, FIFA says it has commenced the process of inviting an alternative team to replace Nigeria at this month's FIFA Under-20 Women Championships in Germany. http://www.kickoff.com/news/16573/fifa-extend-nigeria-deadline.php
I guess that another African team would be the most fair thing to do, but inviting the USA or another European team would be better for profits.
Hi there, New Zealand's Junior Ferns are taking on their Swiss U-20 counterparts at the Grasshoppers Club Campus Niederhasli in Zurich at 1900 local time today. Does anyone know of any websites where I'm likely to find live scoring on this match, please? I'd be most grateful for any info. Thanks, Scousekiwi
Looks like the Nigeria U-20 women will be in after all: Goodluck Jonathan has rescinded the dissolution of the NFF. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8790094.stm
The match ended 2-2. There wouldn't have been any live scoring available, but I was there: The Swiss were winning 2-0 and then were stupid enough to give up two goals. The Kiwis had a strong beginning but overall the Swiss would have deserved to win (even without Bachmann, who was there but not playing). Some more info about the match (in German) here - although I don't entirely agree with the assessment.
Many thanks, kind sir - greatly appreciated. The Junior Ferns now play Japan in a training match (3 x 30 minute spells) in Augsburg on the 8th @ 6pm local time - a non-cap-earning international. After that, it's down to business - Sweden, North Korea and Brazil. Cheers, Scousekiwi
