Orozco's only senior cap came in the WCQ in Port of Spain on Oct 15, 2008. So he is cap tied to the USA. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/prelim...ches/round=250468/match=300053864/report.html
From what I've read, it isn't his talent that's prevented either Jones or Castillo from getting caps, it's attitude. Jones: a Ron Artest-type player and Castillo: a hothead, arrogant SOB. Granted, I haven't heard anything from players or managers on either one.
Castillo apparently going on loan to Tigres for a year, with an option to buy..... Probably being in a lower profile team improves chances not to see him play for Mexico...and allows Sunil a chance to get on the damn phone....
He's cleaned up his act since then. Kobe has 40 more technical fouls than Artest since Artest left Indiana. That's forty technical fouls, no typo, not including these playoffs. Artest is now known as being unstable under the wrong coach.
Since when is Tigres a low profile team? With Castillo moving to Tigres to rejoin his old coach, Daniel Guzman, with whom he enjoyed his best seasons yet, I'd say this is a move geared to get the kid to regain his form thus putting him in contention for a spot on the Mexican National Team once again. It's still his choice and to be honest, I don't see him switching and playing for the US. Stranger things have happened.
Don't start geting all sensitive now...I said lower profile team...Heck, most other clubs not named America or Chivas ARE lower profile teams in comparison.....
There's nothing to be sensitive about, it would just help your argument if you knew what you were talking about.
True, so it's about time you go to back to the Mexican forums to cry about El Tri's lack of form....We are too busy discussing Confederations Cup matches over here....
I guess you can't read either. The title of the thread goes as such: "Fifa removes age limit for switching national teams" I don't see anything about the Confederations Cup. Nice try though.
smithfan, maybe you're just not part of the target group. We'll discuss men wearing scarves again in ten or twenty years.
Do we have a complete list of players who decided at some point to play somewhere else but are now eligible to move to the US, besides Castillo and Jones. (I searched as far as i could into this thread and didnt find a full list.)
I'll do my best. Key: Name Position Club Other COuntry eligible for Jermaine Jones CM Schalke 04 Germany Edgar Castillo LB Tigres (loan from America) Mexico Boaz Myhill GK Hull City Wales Fabian Johnson RM 1860 Munich Germany Marc Heider DEF Werder Bremen II Germany Brandon Poltronieri CDM Leixoes S.C. Costa Rica
Sebastian Hines would appear to be eligible. He's played for England's youth teams in qualifiers but hasn't played for their senior team. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seb_Hines Irish youth international goalkeeper Darren Randolph, who has an American father, hasn't played for the senior team in any non-friendlies... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Randolph What about Alex Zahavi, the LA-born son (or nephew) of the famous soccer agent who was with Barca and is now with Sporting Lisbon? I think he has played for Portugal's YNT though I don't know if he's actually cap-tied. He might be one to monitor though he is only 18. I thought DC-born Bruce Djite might be eligible but Wiki says he played in a qualie for the Aussies... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Djite If FIFA had made this rule change in the 90s we could have added Steve Potts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Potts_(footballer)
I poured over anything Wales I could find, and he has yet to appear in any official competition. He constantly backs up Hennessey, and has made appearances in only friendlies. Hennessey is very young and won't lose that keeper job anytime soon, USA would be a much better option considering our options after HOward retires after 2014.
has anybody come up with a list, for discussion purposes only of course, of players who could potentially move in the other direction? Danny Szetela to Poland?
Szetela has played in a World Cup qualifier against Barbados. Holden could switch to Scotland if he never gets on the field at the Gold Cup. But I am sure he will I think we are all pretty sure we will lose Arturo Alvarez. He tried to switch before the FIFA rules changes and was denied. He could switch now We have some key U20 players who have duel passports. But in terms of losing players not even involved in the YNT system, there are some players who could switch but I wouldn't worry much about them. (Zizzo and Ferrari to Italy, Whitbread to England, etc).
Don't sleep on Holden. He still pulls out his Scottish accent from time to time. The only time I met him, he was a full on Scott, and that was less than a year ago.
