    Question...

Obviously, neither he nor Jones could be officially called in for Gold Cup...but couldn't they be invited as non-roster players?

Huh... what are you talking about??? If you don't appear in a game it doesn't count.

Sorry, I need to explain a bit better...

Is there anything to stop Bob from inviting these two to a camp for a couple of days, get to know the guys, a little training, see how they like things, play in a couple of scrimmages...that sort of thing.

I think their teams could put the kibosh on this since they can't go to camp without being released by their clubs first and since they aren't cleared to play for the US, the USSF can't request to have them released, at least not formally.

Now, just because the teams could do it doesn't mean they will. It would all depend on the individual teams and their relationship with the players. But it's the teams' call.

    mind your own.
The rule doesn't go into effect until August. The GC is in July. Why are you struggling with this?

Are you a moron or do you just not use what sense you have?

There is a TWO MONTH WAIT between the passing of the new FIFA rule and the time it is put into effect.

The Gold Cup falls during that two-month gap.

Until the two months pass, no player over 21 can apply to switch national teams.

Because the players in question are cap-tied, at this time, to Germany and Mexico, the US can't call them up because they aren't US players.

Ergo, their clubs don't have to release them to a national team for which they aren't eligible to play for AT THIS TIME.

It's really not that complicated so the fact that you don't understand says more about you.

Smart move by Jones.... since @ 27 he will get lots of playing with the USA and was being ignored by German NT as of late...

As I said earlier in this thread, the new Fifa rule makes more sense then the old one

I have a question about Castillo. He played for Mexico during the Olympic qualifiers. Does that count as an official match? It would be strange if FIFA counted the Olympics an official compeitition but not the qualifiers.

I agree, it would be strange if they counted the Olympics as an official competition but not the qualifiers. However, they don't count the Olympics as an official competition.

The Olympics and qualifiers are official youth competition. This thread is about a rule that under some circumstances allows players who played in official youth competitions but not in official senior competitions to make a one-time switch of national team affiliation.

The Olympics are not "A" level. Only "A" level matches (in official competitions) tie players.

Any official match (youth or senior) ties a player, but if he has dual nationality at the time of his first official youth match, and has not played an official senior match, then he can make a switch once in his life.

This has been addressed several times in this thread. The Olympics are considered a youth tournament.

Er, yeah. Sorry about the imprecision. With respect to people who get talked about in this thread, I thought that went without saying.

Has Orozco played senior games with the US? I guess he could decide to change if he isnt cap tied.
