Always useful to know who composes the committee that makes the referee appointments. For WC 2010, the makeup of the Referees Committee is: *Angel Maria Villar Llona - SPAIN, Chair *Ricardo Terra Teixiera - BRAZIL, Vice Chair *Carlos Alarcon - PARAGUAY Yousuf Al-Serkal - UAE Lisle Austin - BARBADOS *Amadou Diakite - MALI Peter Mikkelsen - DENMARK Gilles Tavergeux - NEW CALEDONIA Amhed Mohammed Jassim - BAHRAIN Belaid Lacarne - ALGERIA Badara Sene - SENEGAL *Toru Kamikawa - JAPAN Michal Listkiewicz - POLAND Boris Mihailov - BULGARIA Ted Howard - USA Harry Atisson - VANUATU *indicates that a referee from that country is at the World Cup Granted, I don't know every single person on this committee, so it's possible a lot of them are referees. But not many of them are high-profile identifiable former FIFA Referees, like we've seen in the past. Only Kamikawa, Sene, and Mikkelsen stick out as former high-profile international officials. If anyone knows anything about the others, feel free to chime in.
Blimey, political correctness is in full flow at FIFA HQ! Vanuatan and New Caledonian representatives...
This list is somewhat misleading. There is one representative from each confederation and they are noted as such in the FIFA Web site listing, plus the chair and vice-chair. Then there are all the others. It is not clear what the others do or how much influence they carry. My guess is that the official reps have voting rights and the others do not. Does anyone know the real situation?
They need to not only make refs show the player the foul is on but why too!!! Over-all my opinion of FIFA refs is on a steady decline since Confederations Cup. What happened to Ireland in qualifying and U.S. & Enland, among others, in this years WC is inexcusable, period!
Inexcusable no, but there's plenty of reasons that you could see if you tried at all to understand any of the situations. The problem is people would rather blame than try and understand, it's just easier to say it's someone else's fault.
